iphone x ordering

i havent ordered a phone yet. According to the apple store, one was available 2 hrs away from me this morning, but it was gone within an hour.

my question is, if i order online through apple (3-4 week wait) and if one comes available at one of the stores close to me before the order ships, can i secure an "at store pickup" and cancel the online order?
