Given that the iPhone X has been out now for 3 months, I feel somewhat cheated on how many apps still have not been updated to make full or effective use of the display. What gives?

I would have thought by now, 90% of the apps would have been updated. Yet, I still have about that percentage in apps on my phone that still don’t display correctly or use ginormous borders, effectively shrinking the viewable image.

I’m with you on that. Seems like the devs are taking their sweet time updating the apps. Either that, or they just don’t have the incentive to do it, since the majority of the iOS user base uses devices with the 16:9 aspect ratio.

Agreed I'm super annoyed with this as well. Only 2 out of my 5 banking apps have been updated and one them amazingly was never updated for the iPhone 6/6+ resolutions which is ridiculous! I have a ton of games still not updated also. Usually, iOS devs are more on it than Android developers.

Why would you have five different banking apps?

There’s no practical incentive for developers to update their apps to fit iPhone X. Especially if an app is using custom view controllers then it can be a real pain.

Not to mention it took a lot longer than 3 months for apps to take advantage of changes in the display from the 4s to 5 or other similar changes.

Developers know that only a handful own X’s and are probably waiting on the this years iphone to go all in on developing apps. Especially with the news the notch might get smaller. Remember the X is a Beta for Apple.

My thing is if an app isn’t updated by the end of the month for the X it’s being deleted.

A smaller notch wouldn't impact app development as that area of the screen is already rendered.

Thank you, I don’t know why that was so hard to understand.

Man people sure are judgy.

I in no way was judging you for your banking decisions. I was just curious and a bit confused. Might stem from differences in countries and such though. I don't know a single person whose card isn't managed by their bank and their bank's app. No matter if you've got a Master Card, a Dancard, or whatever, your bank issues it and it's managed through your main banking app as well

In America, different backs have different incentives. One bank may offer a lower APR or 0% interest for a set duration of time. Where another bank may have a better rewards program. Some rewards programs focus on cash back and others may offer airlines miles as an incentive.

Further most people who are self employed keep a separate bank and credit card for those expensive as it is beneficial to avoid 'piercing the corporate veil' by separating business purchases and expenses from personal.

The notch getting smaller has Little to do as its size is dynamic, so if it were to change, apps would be updated automatically. On the same note, a smaller notch may not arrive before late 2019.

The X is a mass-production ready product. You'd be scared if you watched real betas and prototypes.

Whilst I think that last part can be fairly universal (though not something I have first hand experience with), thank you for the insight :). Whilst there are also sometimes incentive programs from banks and whatnot here, it's usually so meaningless that very few people give a bollock. Like "Get a free $20 gift card if you switch to us and stay with us as your only bank for 20 years!". Obviously that's exaggerated, but still.

I would be very disappointed if apple changes the iphone design by removing notch from future iphone and does not optimize apps for X. I don’t like how YouTube works on X plus the Fios Mobile app which i use to watch news outside. Two big black bars on side in the Fios app, i hope they make it full screen, there’s no option to make it full screen.

Did not see this thread and also posted about this. I really find it by far the biggest disappointment about the iPhone X so far. Yes, I get this is on developers to update- but Apple should find some kind of incentive/requirement to be compliant with their displays if you ask me. You spend this kind of money on a phone and after 3 months you’re still plenty of apps that just refuse to use the screen correctly? As I mentioned in my post, I would have certainly passed on this phone if I knew so many apps would be wasted.
