iPhone X, photo messaging issue

This is hard to describe. I send photos taken via the messaging app to my mother and sister all the time. A few days ago, I took a photo and decided to manually edit and adjust the brightness and contrast before sending it to them. Ever since doing that, every photo that I send them gets edited in the exact same way automatically by the messaging app. It’s driving me crazy. It’s overexposing every photo I take with the messaging app. The only way to send them a normal photo, is to take the photo with the camera and then attach it to their message. Anyone have this problem or know a fix? Thanks!

- reset the device?
- or simply restart the device?
