iPhone X preorder - when will my Apple GC be deducted?

I've currently got a preorder shipping Nov 21-28th and paid for it with a combo of an Apple Store GC and my credit card. I haven't seen any charge go through on my credit card yet. I managed to nab a walk in reservation at a local store today and am wondering if I need to cancel my preorder first to have the money put back on my Apple GC, or does the money only get deducted when your order ships (same time as your credit card gets charged)?
