Does the X still crop videos? For example a youtube video would it crop it where you would see less of the video?

Is face i.d. accurate in low light/dark?

Just debating if the small selections of features are worth the extra $200/300 in price over an 8.

I would say the Face ID and notch makes iPhone X less appealing.
However, you might choose to waIt and see if the next generation is good enough.

Videos on YouTube you can expand to fill the screen like so. Can’t really see it but if you check the pixel size you’ll see it’s the the full 2048x945 of the X Screen.

They do start cropped so you have to expand with a two finger gesture

FaceID works perfect for me. It used to struggle a bit in extremely bright sunlight. However when it asks for a passcode after FaceID failing enter the passcode and it learns that was your face. Now after owning my X since launch I don’t have any issue with FaceID

Is it worth the extra money?

Only you can decide if:

OLED Display
Dual OIS on the rear camera
FaceID
Animoji
Better battery life (I get around 10hrs with medium use, coming from a 1yr old 7+ which would struggle to reach 7hrs with the same/similar usage is very welcome)

Is worth the extra.

Use mine in bed at night occasionally or when I can’t sleep and the light from the screen itself is enough to open without problem in completely dark room.

Likely not much is going to change for the next year or so with the notch and Face ID. It likely will all be refinements with software enhancements and sensors for Face ID.

Face ID dosnt actually require any light if you turn of the attention feature.

Issues for me... none. Love the form factor!

As usual, wait for the second generation. Even if we have a notch no matter what, that notch could be more beautiful.

No complains!

FaceID is perfect!
Have to add FaceID evolves over time and learns, therefore it gets smarter and quicker recognizing you over time. For example my first time with sunglasses it required passcode, after that it never happens anymore.
Same for using in bed when you lay down and parts of your face are covered by pillow for example, once or twice of requiring passcode then it never happened again.
Works the same in a pitch black dark room or outside in the sun with no problems.

Watching videos, your preference if you want to pinch to fill entire screen or normal mode where there are black bars on either side.

Love the batt life, very fast phone.
For me the OLED is gorgeous and colors seems; to me much more accurate and rich

As for the notch sometimes I don’t even notice it’s there, it’s the kinda thing that if it bugs you, maybe for a few days, but after awhile it’s like looking at any other iPhone for me, basically don’t notice it.

Thanks for the feedback. X is expensive, so wanted to get some feedback based on that or maybe going to an 8 plus.

Price is the key factor. I see, and can’t agree more.
Anyway, hope you are happy with your purchase, X or not.

Why not take advantage of a 14 day return period and find out what you like best. I would start with the iPhone 8 Plus and see if that familiar form factor still interests you, otherwise if it doesn’t, then perhaps the price difference of the iPhone X will.

In all honest, there are things I like about the iPhones, and Samsung phones and things I dislike as well. I can not seem to find a happy medium.
The X is what I prefer in size but not price. The S9 I prefer in size as well and the price is fair but there are gripes I have about that device as well....
Not sure I want the old form factor of the 8 plus if I do go that route. Not sure right now.

I have no problem with the "notch" I don't notice it.

As far as Face ID, I actually prefer it over Touch ID. One place it really comes into its own is when I want or need to open a app that requires ID (such as 1 Password or my bank app) but I have to do it one handed. I can safely hold the phone in my right hand tap the screen with my index finger and just hold it up to my face and the app will open. With Face ID I would have to try to get either my thumb or index finger onto the Home Button which puts the phone in a very precarious position with a good possibility of dropping it. Face ID under these circumstances allows much more security in holding the phone.
