iPhone X Screen Brightens Upon Unlocking

I never noticed this before, but my iPhone X seems to welcome me whenever I unlock my phone. Phone goes from dim to bright gradually within a few seconds.

I have auto-brightness off and also TrueTone off as well.

Am I just dumb and never noticed this before or what?

I think it's part of the attention feature. It's probably a safeguard to prevent screen burn-in
