So my iPhone X screen has started to come off. Only about halfway though. It’s not cracked, phone still works fine except for very rarely touch losing sensitivity. Filing a claim on it is gonna run me $200 with Verizon for a new one. However, I’ve read that one of the bigger culprits of this is actually battery swelling. And I also read that if that’s the case Apple will likely just replace the phone and give me a refurbed one. So I went ahead and made a repair appt at the apple store at my local best buy.

anyone have experience with this and what to expect $$ wise?

In case it helps you at some point, the out of warranty repair prices are noted in this Apple support article under the How Much Will It Cost? section:

Yeah definitely not paying that LOL I plan on getting the 12 in a few months so I’m really just trying to make it til then
You’re not going to have much choice. From the photo I’d say it’s almost 100% the battery. If that’s the case, it’s going to continue swelling and could end up breaking your screen in addition to simply stopping to turn on. Once a battery is in that sate it’s going to fail within 1-2 months tops.

you could get your self a unlock SE 2020 too hold you over for right now tell iPhone 12 comes out

If it’s the battery then all it needs is a battery… the screen isn’t damaged just the clips came undone at the top.

Alright cool.
i have an apt with the Apple store at a Best Buy next Tuesday.

if They do try to pull wanting me to pay $500+ for a whole new phone instead of just the battery replacement fee, then I may just look into the SE for a few months.

Battery swelling is usually caused by keeping the phone plugged in all the time- especially when using it

Mine is doing the exact same thing. Plus the screen is freaking out.. which I understand is an issue that Apple will still cover up until November 2020. I took it into a Simply Mac store, Apple Authorized... and they stated the phone would basically needs to be replaced.. they did say the battery situation was one issue.. $549.

I just got an 11 Pro max and I was going to pass this phone down, but that is not worth it. Oh well.

I'm having the same issue. Best Buy told me $550 to replace the phone. I called Apple and they are sending me a box to ship it to them to have them replace the battery for $80ish.

Per local AT&T stores advice,,Took mine to a battery replacement shop (Batterie & Bulbs) and had it replaced in 45min for $70. ( My first stop was Geek Squad and they said it would cost $500+ to repair and “might as well walk over to carrier sales and buy new iPhone!).
