Houston (duh)
I am enjoying the phone so far. It's beautiful.
However, I've noticed the screen go 'dim' a couple of times.

The first time, I couldn't get it fully bright again. I opened the settings and set brightness to max, but it still wasn't as bright as before or my iPhone 7+.

I turned it off, and on again, and it was back to its original bright self.
Then, it did it again.

I noticed it was pretty hot... mainly because it's still setting up all the apps, etc as I restored from backup.

Is there a setting that has it do this automatically when hot?
Anyone else notice this?

I'm hoping it's just because it's new and setting up everything, but if it becomes a pattern, it will be very irritating.

When I updated my 7+ to iOS11, auto-brightness was enabled automatically which I normally have off, and the destination was changed to General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations.

Was this the issue? I just picked up my X so I haven't had time to check if the setting is still there myself.

Not sure if this is the same issue I had been experiencing with my 8 Plus. In my case the screen would dim three seconds after unlocking. Long story short, related to auto brightness. The update to iOS 11.1 seems to have solved the issue in my case. So my suggestion, I believe the early Xs have shipped with 11.0.3 installed. I would suggest upgrading to 11.1 and seeing if that resolves it.

Thanks. I didn't think it was auto-brightness because I could manually max it out, and it stayed kind of dim...

It may be though... Experimenting now.
Yeah you can manually increase brightness even with auto-brightness is enabled, it just adjusts it from where you set it manually! This is why I always turn it off as soon as I get a new phone :)

Mine stopped restoring from iCloud twice due to heat. I guess downloading 60gb and charging at the same time was taking its toll

I had this too. It randomly jumped to way higher brightness and I thought it might be heat related as well.

Under settings, Face ID and passcode there is an option called “Attention aware features” which is supposed to allow the phone to know if you are looking at it or now and I believe it will dim the screen earlier if it thinks you aren’t paying attention. Perhaps try disabling this?

Oh.... very good thought.

I'm getting the same thing on my iPhone X (SG 256) I picked up a few hours ago.

True Tone and auto dim are off. Full brightness. Still see a sudden decrease or increase in brightness level.

You might be right that this is heat related. I’ve been outside in 80 degree weather here in Florida all day today. I had the phone out and i was using it in direct sunlight and suddenly the screen dimmed for no reason. The phone was definitely warm to the touch. Turning it off and on didn’t make a difference. I put it in the shade for a while and after it cooled down it was back to the normal brightness.

Yeah... Since starting this thread, I’ve had it happen again and my phone was hot... this time it was sitting in its holder on my Jeep’s dash. I was using it for maps, etc.
