I’ve been looking throughout the internet for some sort of answer to this and keep hitting a dead end, hopefully someone can shed some light and help me out.

I’ve been using my iPhone X heavily since I purchased it on Launch Day. I really have no complaints, however I’ve been having some difficulty with my screen brightness.

Randomly, my screen will dim in and out (happens with True Tone both on and off). Auto Brightness is turned off. I try to turn the brightness all the way up on the phone, and it’s as if the phone is at half brightness, or a fraction of what it should be.

It’s very frustrating to be typing something, reading or watching something, and the brightness just dims.

I’ve restored my phone, and have done soft resets. I’ve updated my device to the latest iOS and even have installed beta on my X (to enjoy the latest features and hope this is just a bug).

If anyone has any answers or tips, please let me know or if someone can forward me to a thread where others are having this issue as well, it is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you turn auto-brightness off in settings under General-->Accessibility-->Display Accommodations-->Auto-brightness?

Is your phone warm or hot when this happens? iOS does dim the brightness to reduce heat

Try triple clicking the side button.

Unfortunately this does nothing

Wow, this is the best response I’ve seen. Yes my phone has been warm... I’m using an Evutec case that does have a magnet in the back for a car mount.

No case. Happened when i was restoring from backup. Lots of heat when doing that.

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback! Seems to be the most logical explanation actually.

I powered off the device and let it chill out without the case for a few minutes. After powering on, and having a cooler phone, the brightness did intensify.

I hope an update can fix this! Going without a case seems too risky
