Interesting, I also noticed a difference on my screen after I updated. Maybe a bit more yellow? I can't say I really have a preference or opinion about the change, but something was certainly changed with True Tone. Maybe to reduce burn in or something?

iPhone X, OTA update. Definitely made everything duller and more flat, and no longer has that "pop" that the OLED screen had on iOS11. Noticed it right away after the update.

Will keep my eye on this thread to see if a backup DFU restore will solve the problem, otherwise will see if Apple releases an update. It almost seems like the color calibration profile is missing or incorrect.

So I decided to look at the tips app cause why not, and I’m guessing this is the iPhone X screen? Is it just me or does it look super dull?

Maybe I'm just minority, but my only iOS device is just iPod Touch 6, which is also affected. Upgraded iOS 12 today and color are more whiter and washed out, very eyesore to look at. On iOS 11 color are much richer even just normal IPS display.

I think it's just me, searching on internet and got the fact most of iOS device was affected.

Please everyone, if you take the time to post here make sure and report it to Apple.

This may be unrelated. Part of a book cover as viewed in Apple’s Books:

How it should appear:

Some of my books have beautiful cover colours but they look a bit lifeless in Books. Artwork should be reproduced as faithfully as possible and not faffed about with, imo.

Is filling out the ‘product feedback’ on the Apple website the only way to do it? I have done that, but wonder if there is another way to report the issue.
I would contact Apple support and ask for a senior advisor so they can forward the case on to engineering.

Yup happening to my iPhone 7 after OTA upgrade. Gets uncomfortable looking at my phone.. almost want to find a pure black wallpaper.

Definitely helps with my goal of trying to look at my phone less though.. haha.

Yes! And that is exactly how my 8+ looked immediately after update. However, 24 hours later, the screen is sharp and clear. The only thing I changed was the transparency of the dock. Really strange!

I noticed that after updating my screen looked very unsaturated. I was using the default iOS 11 wallpaper. But I’m guessing my eyes adjusted cause I don’t see it so much anymore, but I’m guessing the issue is still there. Now I’m using the iOS 12 default wallpaper and the colors seem more saturated but duller... like the screen is dark. I can’t explain it. So weird.

Edit: I submitted lengthy feedback to Apple and labeled it as a bug report. Linked the website and this discussion so maybe someone can see what we’re talking about.

If you look at the wallpaper previews (settings app), they are quite vibrant. Something is being done to them when or after they are applied.

Had my call. First steps are basic troubleshooting... reset some settings then do full backup/restore. If there's no improvement it'll move to Engineering for investigation.

Interesting. Makes it sound like anything I do won't really make a difference as it needs to change inside the OS

Has anyone found that restoring the device fixes this issue? Either with or without a backup.

One other thing i observed in iOS 12:
When enabling the setting "increase contrast", text gets darker. The same as in iOS 11. But in iOS 12, when enabling the increase contrast setting, the icons in the weather widget ("widget center") get ugly black lines around it to make it more visible. So Apple must have known that the white colours are difficult to see. When enabling the increase contrast setting in iOS 11, you don't get these lines.

Just check for yourself if you are on iOS 12. Maybe post a screenshot for the rest to see. Im back on iOS 11, so can't post a picture of it.
