my wife cracked her IPhone X screen. FaceID works fine but front camera won’t activate in camera or FaceTime app. Will replacing the screen fix the camera issue or have an effect on faceid?

I’m willing to replace the screen but that’s about it. If it’s more involved and I need to replace the camera I may as well just get her a new phone. After all, 9/10 is only a week away.

She probably damaged the front camera. I imagine that would have to be repaired as well.

Apple can tell you everything that's wrong for free. You don't have to pay them for repairs if you don't want to.

The front camera is not part of the display. It is part of the TrueDepth module that contains the FaceID. If you go to Apple, they will charge you the full replacement cost of the device.

Can the TrueDepth module partially break? As I mentioned, Face ID is still working.

Thanks, I’ve got a chat going with Apple support. I may try to take it into them today.

Yes, the RGB camera can break while FaceID still works. In other cases, the FaceID feature can fail while the RGB camera works normally.

Gotcha thanks. Apple chat support confirmed your assessment; this damage falls under “other damage” and would cost $549 for repair/replacement.
