I can't quite get my head round the screen on the new Xr. I have an X and do not want to upgrade to the Xs or Xs Max. For my personal use though, I do like the look of the Xr. I'm happy with all the compromises on it, except I can't work out ref the screen.

Will I likely see/notice much difference between my current X screen and the new Xr screen in terms of visual quality and usage (i.e. scrolling etc)?

Super Retina (X/XS/XSMax) vs. Liquid Retina (Xr).

Put it this way. If you owned an iPhone 7 or iPhone 8 (not Plus versions), you'll be fine with Xr.

But if you gotten so used to how crisp the pixels are with your current X, you'll be disappointed.

Oh really? That's basically my concern, i.e. that having used an X for a year now the Xr screen would look less clear etc in comparison.

I think you will notice the difference. I tried an iPhone 8 after having an X for some time and I only lasted one day with the 8 and back it went. I can’t imagine how bad the XR will look considering how much larger the screen is compared to, say, an iPhone 8.

Apple really should have made the screen 1080p, but they have to keep profit up, right?

I agree. If they'd made the XR with at least a 1080P screen, that's what I'd be waiting for. For people with an iPhone 6S/7/8, they'll feel right at home with the XR.

Yeah it's literally my only concern. If I thought I wouldn't notice a particular difference in screen quality from my X then I'd go for it as I love the colour choices. Shame I guess.

The lower resolution and the increased bezel size would drive me nuts, coming from an X. It's too significant a downgrade.

A 1792×828 resolution (326 PPI) on a larger 6.1 in LCD display vs 2436×1125 resolution (458 PPI) on 5.8 OLED will be noticeable with tighter resolution between the different display type.

Things like browsing your phone apps and daily chores, won’t really matter but you will notice a difference when you start streaming and watching video since you’ve owned an X.

Once you’ve seen something, it’s hard to un-see it.

Why downgrade to not having HDR display, no 3D Touch, no telephoto / zoom lens, and go from a Dual 12-megapixel rear camera (wide-angle lens) to a single lens?

The only upgrade is slightly faster speed, which is not worth it IMO. When your iPhone X is about to get faster on this Monday with iOS12.
