Something interesting that I noticed about the oval sensor over the earpiece, my old iPhone X that is going back has a solid bar like what you see depicted in the apple photos, but my new one and one of the other news ones that's going back have on the right hand side of that bar a break and what appears to be a circular sensor as part of that larger bar that the Origional X had. I tried to get a photo but due to the tint it's hard to capture. But you can see it in direct sunlight, and easier when the sun is setting and not as much glare.

Anyways, the Face ID seems to work better on the unit with the secondary sensor that is part of the larger bar and it's not debris under the glass, nor is it scratched on the surface as those were my two initial thoughts.

Fun fact and something interesting to share as this might be one of those elements that Apple changed and isn't saying anything about...

Would you be able to attach one of these photos? I'm very confused

Here’s the location. Shine an led in and if you have a couple compare. Have to hit it just right.
