I have just noticed that the left hand side of my iPhone X has come apart, you can actually see the metal internals. Zoom in on the picture below. I can’t believe this, the side caught my attention because it felt the sharp edge under my thumb while using the phone.

It's somewhat difficult to tell from your picture, however, contact Apple and they will immediately replace your phone for you. Especially if it's a swollen battery.

Can’t see the swelling, but please be careful. Someone posted before about the battery exploding in their hands after trying to handle it. Batteries are nothing to mess around with.

See if they can see you sooner than Thursday. I’d spin it as not having another device to use and you don’t feel comfortable with the way it’s behaving in its current condition.

The detachment? I kind of see it.

I see it better in this picture. Hopefully you’re no where near that phone now and will be on your way to the Apple Store in the morning. Thursday is not acceptable.

Well the adviser told me the Apple Store closest to me is fully booked until Thursday, should I still go ahead and try a walk in and see what they say? It is a 40 minute drive though.

I assume you live near an Apple Store that is open on Thanksgiving (Unless you're not in the US)?

No, I live in the UK, the closest store is about a 40 min drive

Typically most stores have walk in availability too so I’d go in asap! Good luck

Ok, thx for your advice, I am gonna go and try after work today

I don’t see it, but set up an appt and get it replaced. No big deal.

Well, it is actually a pretty big deal to me, as i dont have an Apple store in my town and i have to make time to go and sort this out, what if they don’t have any replacement phones in stock? It is a bummer... :(

I'd try to just walk in and get a Genius appointment on the fly. They usually do it but it might be a long wait. And you may have to be a bit pushy (but remain nice, that works a long way).

Going in & telling them you were concerned with the state of the battery should help your cause in either getting a replacement on the spot or, if there are no stock, have one sent out to you asap. Carry it in some protective pouch/bag, just in case it gets worse. Good luck.

If you’re in the UK and have had the unit for less than 14 days, just reserve another unit for pick up tomorrow - refund your one and buy the new one. Beat their system that way.

Let us know how you get on.

Where are you based?

From Hinckley, have to go to Leicester’s Highcross Apple shop

I have had it for 12 days, im done with all this reserving though, as there is always none in stock...
Will Apple do refunds even if i didnt buy the phone from them?

Ah, I thought the stock issues were over now. I’m in London so perhaps that was a skewed view.

No, they don’t - it’s not their sale to refund. Regardless of refunds, I would always advise anyone to buy Apple products directly from Apple.

They won’t refund you. You’ll get a white box replacement which, at this point, are brand new production devices.
