I'm on the fence about the Xs. I happened to be at the Apple store yesterday and noticed the X is now starting at $899... tempting. My question is the Xs $100 better than the X? Tough one...

That’s a decent deal. Whew I’d have to think on that one.

I thought they were discontinued at Apple and you could not get it any longer. I guess at Best Buy and carriers but if Apple continues to sell it then it cannibalizes XS.

yeah they savings wasn't much when i told my wife so we opted for the Xs for her. $799 would have been a lot more enticing.
Apple only ever discounts the previous years model $100.

You cannot buy it online but they still have stock in stores. Best Buy still has the X for $999+

Well technically it's discontinued on Apple.com. However, Apple store can still sell them if they have in stock (no new stocks will be delivered) at a discounted price. I was at the apple store yesterday and saw someone walk out with one.

You’d get so much more for the extra $100 through. Tough call...
"So much more" - are you really though? I mean, the benchmarks on the Xs (if real) are really not that big of an update. And actually perform worse in some situations - if they are real. The camera has some nice upgrades, but nothing catastrophic. If I was not handing off my X to a relative, I would have skipped the Xs update.

Hhmm, well i’d like a black one. I already have the X in a different color. I rather get another then buy the XS for the higher price. ‍♂️

Yeah you get a lot more.

  • A12 bionic - 15% faster, uses half the power
  • 30 minute longer battery life
  • GPU 50% faster (better for gaming)
  • 9X faster neural engine (faster AI and processing for certain apps)
  • Faster Face ID unlock (using new neural engine)
  • 4GB RAM (not confirmed for XS yet, but Geekbench for XS Max shows it)
  • 60% greater dynamic range in display (for colors in photos, Phil said, not luminance? brightness still the same)
  • 120Hz touch sensitive layer (not 120Hz refresh rate like Pro Motion, just more reactive to touch)
  • More durable front and rear glass
  • Wider stereo speaker field separation (more realistic stereo sound playback)
  • Larger camera sensor with deeper pixel wells (produces better photos with less noise and more accurate color)
  • Neural engine coupled to ISP (produces better photos using smart HDR)
  • 2X faster camera sensor (helps with smart HDR sequential exposure captures)
  • Extended dynamic range for video up to 30fps (helps with shadows/highlights in video)
  • Stereo sound recording for video (more realistic sound)
  • 60fps 1080p on front camera (was 30fps before from what I can tell)
  • More sophisticated bokeh background blur effect (not specified what this means, maybe more accurate on fine edges using new neural engine?)
  • Depth control for bokeh (allows you to change background blur effect after the photo was taken to vary the appearance of depth of field/aperture)
  • Improved flash (mentioned during keynote, not specified?)
  • Higher level water and dust resistance rating of IP68 (2M for 30min)
  • Faster wireless charging (listed on site, difference not specified)
  • Gigabit class LTE 4x4 MIMO
  • Dual sim (one physical, one e-sim)
  • WiFi has 2x2 MIMO (previous model only showed MIMO, not 2x2, not sure if this is upgrade?)
  • Supports band 71 LTE (building penetrating, longer range, used extensively by T-Mobile)

In my opinion, definitely worth $100 more.

hes talking about real benchmarks. not what apple is telling us. doesnt look like 30% bump right now according to benchmarks. barely any at all

Wow, very helpful. Thanks for posting it here, I did not see that elsewhere.

Sometimes they move older model inventory to refurbished section, brand new units at reduced price.

Just noticed that Verizon is doing a new line of service deal on the X. Pay $168(?) upfront, add a line of service and they will pay the $168 back over 24 months. Or at least that's the way I read it.
