So, I lightly dropped my iPhone X about an inch onto my desk and now I have a small nick in the steel band on the corner. Anyone else noticed any durability issues with it?

Nope! Though, I have the Space Grey.

Which color do you have?

Space Grey too. :-(

It's almost a chip in the finish more than anything. Very light. I expected it to scratch and chip over time, especially since I'm going caseless, but to ding on a flat desk is a little surprising.

The steel band will scratch very easily. I have a ton of scratches on mine from just talking out of my pocket. It reminds me of the iPod back. Now I am putting a case on it for the winter but unless you are selling the device, the scratches are irrelevant. It scratches more easily than my Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus.

You can polish with cape cod if they bother you though.

I thought you couldn't do this on Space Grey? I'm on iUP though, so I'll be trading in a year and have AppleCare. I'm going to chalk it up to "beautifying" my device.

Stainless steel is not hard to scratch. If naked, it will get damaged. Even if not naked, the SS band will get scuffed by the case. It is inevitable.

OP has space grey not stainless steel

I’m surprised, I thought the sg was much more durable than the ss band.

Me too. I'll try to post a pic when I get home and snap it with my iPad. Like I said, my desk isn't made out of jagged rocks or anything, and it was a light fall.

6 days in and my stainless steel band has faint scratches on both sides in the middle. This has come from putting the case on and removing it only 4 times. Luckily, these types of scratches are easily polished out, but it's still pretty annoying.

Two things:

1.) I would not recommend using a Cape Cod cloth on the space gray version (Which the OP has), due to the PVD coating.

2.) The OP stated they have a Nick that is embedded into the stainless, and a Cape Cod cloth would not remove that anyways. A Cape Cod cloth will remove fine scratches and abrasions. You Just want to use caution that the cloth does not come in contact with the display.

Here’s a pic. Sorry, it’s the best I can do

It's damaged from a drop onto your desk? 😱

Drop it onto concrete and use Applecare+ for a replacement.

Glad I bought a couple of cases before launch day and put one on just as soon as I'd finished admiring it's beauty. Does anyone think rubbing a little liquid polymer car wax into it might add some protection, or will that likely tarnish the finish? 😎

Barely a drop too. Like I said, I knew the risk going caseless, just know now I’ll have to be extra careful.
