Everyone's seems to be hating this notch. I like this new design! :D
It's unique, now iPhone stands out and is not like Samsung etc. I don't see the notch will ruining my life on forthcoming X. I'm gonna love this beautiful new phone :apple:

I'm neither a notch lover nor a notch hater.0, but here's what I like about it: The notch does help orient the device so I know which sides the buttons and lightning port are on. I get why people don't like it, but I bet the X looks amazing in person; and I don't think the notch will interfere with content the way some think it will. I just don't have the energy to be outraged by a little ol' notch.

What I like is it is the only MAINSTREAM phone that has the screen reaching ALL 4 corners of the phone to limit the bezel look as much as possible. So I like it. Yes the notch is there but I for some reason prefer the design of the notch to have the screen creep into the corners like that. I will just use those software features to keep content away from notch when I want.

The notch is not remotely practical, but it does have some level of "branding" character that some will find charming over time.

I quite like the notch as well. Like you say, it orients the device and its very thin. The way people have been throwing their toys out of their prams, you'd think it took up a good inch of screen space or something.

Vertically it poses no problems at all. In landscape it won't interfere with video played in correct aspect ratio (who would watch something that isn't?!).

The way websites will have bars next to them (which I'm not sure is about the notch or whether it's another aspect ratio thing) is horrible, though. I really don't like that, but then I never surf in landscape mode anyway so I don't care.

My windscreen even has a notch...

Does this make me its biggest fan?

You are Going to find that there are two sides to this, those who appreciate it and those who don't. It's just a matter that it's completely different Apple has designed something after all these years and many don't agree with the change. It won't affect me, but it will change some minds about purchasing this iPhone.

I like the notch and will be buying the X. The phone looks amazing in all the videos I have seen. The people that hate it are usually the loudest because they need approval from others on their non buying decision. The people that like it will usually just buy it and be happy with it. I have seen this for years with iPhones and this forum.

Initially I found the notch distracting but I am warming up to it. I wonder what the icon for an iPhone would look like if it didn’t have a notch? Just a rectangle with round corners? They are owning the notch and it DOES differentiate the phone from the other “screen only” models made by other companies.
Think about it, if every phone from here on out is just the screen in front and metal or plastic in back with a logo, how do you stand out from the crowd?

The fact it's been added in to be 'different' and 'stand out' pretty much sums up how redundant the design is. What's brilliant is that it's an edge to edge screen but it isn't really. Yeah sure, I get it, the other phones have foreheads and chins and now look outdated. But considering how UX might suffer thanks to the design, it seems very un-apple to me. I might be petty but honestly think the notch is a killer reasons for not purchasing (for me).

That and I'm not convinced yet by the slim build. Need to know more about the type of panel the OLED is using. Wish it came with it's own iOS too. And the moon on a stick! It has no moon on a stick.

Creature comforts, yeah?

I don't love it. However, design compromises had to be made. I'm not mad about it. The phone is still beautiful.

I'm not sure I'm ready to call myself a notch lover. But I get why it's there and wouldn't expect it to be much of an issue in practice. The alternative would be one or more black bars and I wouldn't love those.

I'm notch neutral. To hate the notch is premature. I'll own it for a while before I start hating various things about the phone. But I think it's safe to begin hating the price now.

I'm not into tech as some on here, but I think the notch looks better than having one straight bar. In most cases the phone truly looks edge to edge. Again let's all see it and experience it first hand. I plan on ordering one and if I don't like it, I will get a 8 plus.

I am buying the X because I've been waiting for an OLED phone forever.. But I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of the notch... I really wish Apple would have made each side black and blended in the toolbar.... but I think I'll just get used to it (I hope I will) the only area where i see it bothering me is with videos, which I consume alot on my iPhone. And I know I can just double tap but that makes the video look letterbox, I like full screen.

I agree, while serving its obvious functionality, I believe Apple wants the distinct silhouette of the notch in its logos for software, apps, and other items showing it's compatibility to iPhone. Just as we were so used to seeing the original home button in all of the images, so we knew it was for iPhone. i.e the logo used for the iPhone threads in this forum.

Don't be a price bigot. Apple doesn't like that.

As to the notch, I am ambivalent about it at this point in time. Once I receive the phone, I will make some decisions during the 14 day trial.
