Hey,

Tried to search for a similar issue but cant see anyone discussing it.

About 10-20% of the time when I unlock my iPhone X, either via faceID or passcode, my phone unlocks to just a blank screen (ie my background wallpaper). No apps. I swipe up (home button) and this clears it momentarily and then back to a blank screen, I have to then swipe up again to recover the screen.

Very annoying. I can unlock 20-30 times in a row and it wont happen then it will just randomly happen.

Anyone else experiencing this? I was hoping iOS11.2 would fix it but it hasn't. I really don't want to mess about restoring etc as its a huge pain to do this, as 9 times out of 10 it never fixes my issue. Might have to though if it persists!

Sounds like a restore is necessary. Either that or and appt. with a Genius @ Apple Store. They'll probably tell you to try a restore so might as well do that first to get it out of the way. If your phone is still in the return period then I'd just return an exchange for a new one.

Why replace the hardware when it is a software issue?

Why replace the hardware when it is a software issue?

1. At this point it's not known if it's a hardware or software issue. Software could be acting up because of the hardware.
2. If it's a new phone, still returnable, if it's me, I don't care the cause of the problem, I'm not going through the hassle if figuring it out. I'll exchange it for another phone and let Apple figure that out on it's own time.

Happens to me every once in a while on my 8+, so it’s definitely a software issue. Reboot usually fixes it, but doesn’t seem like there’s a permanent fix

This is happening to both me and my wife’s iPhone X after upgrading to 11.2. Mine more often then hers. It is also blank when I swipe from the top for notifications.
