Hi everyone,

I purchased a iPhone X on the upgrade program directly from apple.com for sprint which I am giving to my girlfriend for her metropcs line.

https://www.apple.com/shop/iphone/iphone-upgrade-program

On the upgrade program website it states: "You’re buying directly from Apple. Which means no more financing your iPhone through your carrier or committing to a multiyear service contract. Your new iPhone will work with your carrier, so you won’t have to make any changes to your rate plan. And if you ever decide to switch carriers after you activate your iPhone with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon, you can easily do that, too.3"

The iPhone box shows model A1865. Below is the transcript from apple:

Me: 3567210827*****
Me: IMEI
Theresa: Thank you.
Theresa: So, what I can tell you is that your iphone is locked to your carrier.
Me: Can you explain why it is locked to my carrier when it was purchased directly from apple?
Theresa: Depending, on when you purchased the iPhone, if you chose a carrier at the time of purchase it would lock to that carrier. Did you purchase the phone online?

I have another Sprint iPhone for myself that apple says is unlocked. But this one apparently isn't. The rep told me to talk to sales... So what I'm wondering, is did something mess up on apples activation server that locked the phone to sprint? What would my course of action be to get a phone that is actually unlocked?
