My contact is up this month so time for a new phone. I'm having trouble deciding between the X and the 8+. I need a phone with longer battery life my 6s is struggling. I'm also aiming for 256GB because I know 64 isn't enough when my current phone is 128GB.

I want a phone that takes good pictures mostly and has a larger screen than my 6S.

Both are excellent choices, how much do you want to spend? How attached are you to the home button or Touch ID? The 8+ is a good cohce as it has both a larger screen and excellent cameras and is a bit cheaper than the X.

The X is outstanding and the future though.

I have both devices and apple wins hands down especially battery life. Unless you want more control of your device the iPhone is the way to go.

X because it’s fresh with a newer design that’s going to be used from now on, also the gestures are a pleasure to use compared to clicking on that delayed home button. The 8+ is an oudated brick when it comes to design.

Macalicious2011 essentially said what i was going to: wait a few weeks. New phones will be announced in early/mid-September.

My guess based on what they've done the last several years:
  1. Announcement on Tuesday, September 11: Apple seems to like doing the phone announcements on Tuesdays, and usually during the second full week of September.
  2. Pre-orders on Friday, September 14th
  3. iOS 12 release the next week, mid-week, maybe September 18-19
  4. New phone deliveries/in-store Friday, September 21st
My advice would be wait until the event. If Apple keeps with the same pattern they've been engaged in for some time now, it should be in about five-and-a-half weeks.

Just got rid of my 8+ on Tuesday and got a X best decision ever. The battery on the X actually last longer than my 8+. And i didn't think that i would like it but not having touch id has been amazing. So glad i went with the X

I think he’s right. My 6s+ battery lasted longer than my new 8+. But I still prefer the full 16:9 aspect ratio and larger screen of the 8+. So, I’d say wait for the new iPhone X Plus.

8 Plus advantages:
- Lower price
- Effectively larger screen
- Most report better battery life
- Home button and Touch ID *Subjective*

X advantages:
- More "modern" design
- More compact form factor (easier one-handed use)
- Superior OLED display
- Face ID *Subjective*

Personally, I chose the 8 Plus, but it really just came down to personal preference.

Wait until the end of September to make your decision.

At this point why is anybody buying a new iPhone? They’re already a year old and new ones will be out in a couple months at most.

My carrier has all smartphones for sale 1/2 price so it's a good deal. The 256GB X is $574 with 2 yr contract; just a bit 2 pricey for me right now. I think the 8+ is $200 cheaper for the 256GB. I do like the no home button.

I currently have a 8 plus ( has been brilliant in fairness) but it's getting annoying at times carting it around with its weight and size, so I'm going to get the new X for mobile and convenience and the new iPad pro for home use, anyone think I'm right or wrong?
The 8+ is a very heavy phone, doesn't have OLED and feels like a legacy device.

What I find out, is those who have not used the iPhone X and have been accustomed to using iPhone 8 Plus, are not sure if they want to migrate towards a new form factor, but once they experience the iPhone X, most don’t want to go back to the iPhone 8 because they realize how much different it really is easier to hold and Carry.

One of the ladies I work with has the X and she really likes it and it takes great pictures. It's just even at 1/2 price it's still $500 which is still a lot of money for me right now.

That’s perfect if you can afford it so as not to wear down the phone’s battery with extensive media consumption at home. I’d snap up an iPad mini personally to use at home. But I’ll keep my 8+. Very happy with it.

I’d wait until next month as carriers will start putting reductions on iPhones in readiness for the announcements of the 2018 iPhones. I’m in the same position as the OP and will pick up an iPhone 8 on a 2 year contract with a decent discount. I’m past the point of caring if I have the latest iPhone and would rather get something sensibly priced.

If I was to choose right now between the X and the 8+, I’d go for the 8+ as it’s cheaper. I hate the size of it but both devices have trade offs from my perspective.

I ended up getting the 8+ in black 256 gig for $397. It matches my Apple watch. I really like the 8+ so far; even with my small hands it's not difficult to use...unless I'm trying to take photos of my dog lol.

I had both. Something most people done talk about is how much faster the X FEELS compared to the 8 and 8+.
