Highlights below for the new iPhone XS that is the difference from the iPhone X:

2m water resistant rated IP68 compared to 1m and rated IP67 on X

512GB storage, 256GB max on X

6.24 ounces, heaver than X which is 6.14 ounces

A12 Bionic Chip and Next Gen Neural Engine compared to A11 Bionic Chip and older Neural Engine on X

Portrait mode with advance bokeh and Depth Control compared to Portrait mode only on X

Smart HDR compared to Auto HDR on X

Extended dynamic range for video up to 30 fps, none for X

Stereo recording, none for X

Front Camera: Extended dynamic range for video up to 30 fps, Stereo recording and Cinematic Video stabilization (1080p and 720p) none for X. 1080p HD video recording at 30 fps or 60 fps, no fps for X.

Wider stereo playback, compared to stereo playback only on X

Battery: 30 min longer than X. 1 hour longer on video playback (wireless) than X. 1 hour less than X in Talk time (wireless).

Dual SIM (nano-SIM and eSIM) compared to Nano-SIM only on X

Gigabit-class LTE vs. LTE Advanced on X

Based on this, i might not upgrade, unless i really want the Gold color and A12 chip.

You forgot Gigibit LTE 4x4 MiMo
Technically... iPhone X has this, Qualcomm equiped verisons. The chipset. Just not the antennas to allow receiving the signals...
Does Xs have same technicality, does it have more antennas somehow? if so, how?

Call me skeptical. But 3x3 600-800mbps? vs 4x4 gigabit. Is meh, territory.

The new Intel modem has the capability. I noticed a new antenna line on the top of the phones stainless steel band that might be for that purpose

iPhone XS has more antennas. 4x4 MIMO. This is a change in design for the enclosure.

iPhone X packs 2x2 MIMO.

It's not about getting Gigabit speeds, but rather better speeds in areas with low and moderate signal strength.

I am only upgrading to get access to ip68 and what looks like a slightly better camera. Is there any idea if this depth control is enabled in the X?

Don't underestimate the power of software. The Xs will smoke the X in camera. My Pixel 2 is the phone that Apple have responded to with computational photography is the photos it takes are unreal.

Now that the iPhone will match it. I will likely upgrade to the Xs Max when it drops in price in a year's time.

If the the Xs has the feature on launch I’d say the X won’t get the feature. Nobody has mentioned it on the iOS12 beta forum so if the Xs doesn’t ship with it there’s hope that it will be added through a future update.

nope - that's why they hyped it up so much.

Thanks guys. Just wasn't sure as it seemed like more of a software feature than a hardware feature.

It's probably one of those things that could be done on the X just fine but not in realtime so instead Apple is being Apple and just doesn't allow the feature.

i really can't see the point of upgrading from an X. Same display, same camera. Ok the chip is faster, but unless face ID turns out to be significantly quicker i really don't see the point.

I thought the camera in the XS was a new unit?

I’ve a feeling in everyday use no one will tell the difference! Just feel poorer if you got the XS. It remains to be seen if Face ID is improved, but with iOS 12 allowing more then one Face I think it could help solve any issues with it.

From what I’ve read the second camera is exactly the same and he main camera is ‘improved’. The main difference is this smart HDR.

Thanks. I suppose knowing Apple I shouldn’t be surprised at that!

It is like minor make up. Not the 5 vs 5s difference where touch id was introduced.

Nobody is talking about the larger sensor pixel size in the Xs - that's what grabbed me. The X has 1.1 micrometer pixels, those on the Xs are 1.4 micrometers. Coming from Android I recognised the improvement in image quality when the Nexus 5x had 1.5 micrometer pixels. The current Pixel 2 has 1.4 micrometer pixels too. The increased pixel size means that the sensor is able to gather more light and, in theory, should improve low-light images and go some way to counter distortion and noise at higher ISO levels.

I doubt I’ll be upgrading this year despite being on the IUP. 10 more payments and I get to keep the X and then restart the IUP next year. Handing my X to Apple and paying the same £56 per month for a upgrade with very little benefit to me is pointless, especially when adding on the £69 upgrade cost. This way next year I’ll get a new iPhone and have the X to sell or to give to a family member and I’ll not have paid any more to do so.
