Is there a purpose of the horizontal line at the bottom of the screen when your inside apps other than a reminder about how to get home? If its nothing more then why even put it there? You don't see any UI indicators to control panel or notification center.

There’s no purpose to it- it’s baffliing and it shouldn’t be there. There should be at least an option to hide it. It wastes space and gets in the way of web pages.

To us, nothing. But to the non-tech population it's a visual "hand holding" cue since there is no home button. My guess is that in some superseding version of iOS it will go away as consumers are accustom to swiping up.

Understand why it's there. But do agree there should be an option to remove it. But it's Apple. They don't like us to customize the GUI too much. That is what Android is for in their opinion.
