Hi,

Today at work, we discovered a strange behavior of 2 iPhone X and 1 iPhone Xs Max. They don’t charge on certain chargers.

For instance, I have a non genuine 2.4 A charger, which charges my iPad Pro 12.9 2017 just fine, but won’t charge my iPhone anymore (but it did a few weeks ago). I usually charge my iPhone by using wireless charging, that’s why I did not realize that it was no longer charging by 2.4 A. The other Xs Max and X won’t charge either on the same charger (the iPad still does, an older iPhone 6 and my beats X earphones also charge, so it does work).

All three iPhones charge fine on wireless.

We also have tried a 29 W USB C to Lightning adapter, which won’t charge neither the iPad nor the iPhones. I guess it is broken.

All three iPhones (2x X 1x Xs Max) charge on genuine Apple 1A chargers (old « big » iPad chargers). They also charge when plugged in the USB port of our computers (should be around 0.5 A).

We tried it with multiple cables.

Anyone experiencing something similar? Did something software related change recently?

Many thanks in advance,

Kind regards,

As an update to my post, the problem seems resolved. It was due to a bad charger (29w) and also due to a somewhat broken lightning cable. Strangely enough, the broken cable does work on my iPad but not on my iPhone.

I’m glad you got it resolved. :)
Thanks :) What’s interesting is that the lightning ports from iPhone X and Xs Max seem to be less forgiving than the one on iPad Pro. The ‘defective’ cable did not work on any iPhone without fiddling around a lot, but it always worked (and still does) on iPad.

My brand new iPhone XS Max does not charge using the lighting cable when the battery is above 60%. I have the new IOS 12.1 update which Apple claimed would resolve any software issues related to the charging problem. Anyone else experiencing the same?
