iPhone X zoom lens not working

When I cover the zoom lens on the back of the iPhone and switch to x2 zoom in the camera app it does not go black since I covered the zoom lens it still only uses the top camera. Has anyone else tried this?

It doesn’t change to it unless there’s good lighting. Like outside sunny lighting.

Just tried that and yes it started working.

Essentially, because you're zoomed, it needs more light to do a proper photo. So, in low-light conditions, it defaults to the other lens no matter what.
