I can’t decide if I want to upgrade to an X from my 8. What are some key features that make it better?

TIA

Keep your 8 for a little over 2 months when the new phone comes out.

at this point that would be my advice. wait and see if there's an upgraded version announced. if there's not then go for it. if there is and it blows you away, wait. if there is and it doesn't blow you away then the existing one is liable to get some $$ knocked off it to clear shelves for the new ones (the most off tends to be places like Best Buy) and you can save some cash

Wait till the new lineup comes out later this year. Wouldn’t make sense to switch to the X at this point. As for benefits it’s mostly the obvious. OLED (though that’s preference), FaceID and minimal bezels.

Really only Face ID and an oled screen.

Oh and an animated poop emoji if that’s what you’re into.

There aren't any. IP8 and X have the same processor. Wait and see what September brings. I bought an X and gave my 8 to my wife. Sometimes I wish I had kept the 8. IMHO, the X is great except for the gestures. My 79 year brain even after nearly 8 months just doesn't like gestures that much. Now if I could kept my fingers from hitting the button on the right that turns the X off, I would like the X a great deal more. The notch does NOT bother me a bit.

More specifically, what would even lead you to consider upgrading to an iPhone X from your iPhone 8 in the first place? What do *You* find appealing.

I was hoping the battery and camera would make it worth it.

The camera might make it a worthy upgrade. Then you do get animojis if you use those things. The X has a newer design with slimmer bezels. Overall the X is a very nice phone.
But the new phones are coming out in Sept so you should wait for the newer models.

I feel like an 8 (or especially and 8 Plus) to a X is more of a side-grade than an up-grade. The same internals and most of the same features in a different form factor.

Basically, the X gets you FaceID, an OLED display and Animojis.

I've got both - I prefer the X to the 8 because of its size (screen, that is). Typing on the 8 is very cramped.

Is it worth the upgrade? Only you can decide but I would say yes, providing you can sell your 8 for a good price. But other posters are right: wait a couple of months and see what Apple brings out. I'll probable be upgrading to the X's successor.

The Battery life on both iPhone 8 and iPhone X are very good, but that really is subjective based on your usage and settings. I also think iPhone X and iPhone 8 camera are fairly similar. What you’re really paying for, is a new form factor and Face ID.

Thank you everyone. I’ve decided to wait till next phone comes out.

The camera on the X is better than the 8.. not by much but still better.

“Better” is subjective, especially when the average consumer really can’t differentiate between photos for something that might be slightly better. To me, it’s not much of a major differentiator between both cameras for the consumer to make that specific decision between the iPhone 8 an X, but the X camera compared to the 6s Camera would be a better example of a better camera.

I picked the 8 over the X for myself, to give it a year to get the usability and bugs worked out.

My reasons for choosing the X over the 8 is the fact that the 8 looks just like all the other iphones previously. I didn't want the bezel at the top and the bottom. Honestly I wanted the screen to be larger as well. When looking at my sister's LG android phones their screen was bigger than mine. True as you see from my <----avatar I came from an se, I was totally tired of my screen being no bigger than a credit card. As for gestures while waiting for my iphone x to arrive, I watched so many youtube video's that when I received it the gestures came naturally. I love everything about my ipX, I have no desire to change when the new ones come out. I do not care about the emojis unless I am playing with my Grandsons.

Wouldn't buy an X right now unless 1.) you need a new phone, or 2.) you can get it at a discount or if some retailer is running a deal. For the same price or possibly less, you can get a new generation X in a couple of months.

I'd say having a dual camera is objectively better; subjectively and anecdotally, also, going by the pictures I take. The 8 doesn't quite cut it.
