Not sure why you think a name change wouldn't be "squeezing" more money out of people. Its still a new device. I also think that calling a phone the "9" when the 10 already came out, is a marketing nightmare. Casual buyers would think its an older model.

What does a name have to do with squuezing money out of people? Also, it’s not squeezing if people are voluntarily spending their money. Is Apple supposed to not release a better model?
I actually think that calling it the 9 might encourage better sales. 9 would suggest that it's a clear step up for 8 users, while "C" calls back to perhaps the least well received iPhone ever.

I don’t disagree it’s easy to fake, I mean “spicy orange??”
But it is also entirely plausible. Look at the other pic (edit: the other pic that is on slashleaks Twitter) that shows the 18w charger and the lightning to USB c cable which is heavily rumoured to come with the phones this year
Also, iPhone 9 makes the most sense in terms of branding and keeping consistent with Apple’s past branding strategy along with mass market comprehension, vs iPhone XC or XR or what some of the other names are coming out as.
I’m not saying it’s definitely real, and I’m not ruling out it’s fake

They’ve correctly (and incorrectly) leaked things in the past too.
Last year they leaked the iPhone 8 name as well, which you may recall was being called the “7S” in the rumor mill

It’s called marketing. Apple knows what they’re doing better over anybody else when it comes to the iPhone and making money. But as others have said, I don’t understand where you’re coming from the squeezing any money quote, when the consumer _makes_ the choice of what they want to Purchase, not Apple.

Xc will be the mass-market iPhone. Nothing cheap about it, but it's just not as premium as the Xs.
Remember, it is also possible that Apple promotes it as iPhone 9 in western countries, and iPhone XC in China. The markets are equally big, and things are marketed very differently between the two.
Someone above me already mentioned absence of product RED branding (Which they won't drop for a red product, that's just not Apple)
The rest is done via a bit of photoshop changing the hue around and then playing with the text and images in Chrome's inspect element feature
