I've never cared about the looking a phone, I care about how they work and what they can do. They are a tool to be used. I always put mine in a bully protective case anyway so looks are even less important

I think they'll stick with the one camera set up as it works well.
[doublepost=1546095717][/doublepost]How a phone looks and feels in the hand is also as important as performance.

It could be said to be a tad bulky but big bezels? We might as well go back to the bezels of touch ID - I know I don't want to.

“The best” is perception. My first iPhone, the 6 plus was the best imo. A friend of mine thinks that the iPhone 3 was the greatest etc. I currently own a gold max, though not perfect, people tell me it’s the best on the market whatever. It is a beautiful phone. It just comes down to what you need x what you can afford.

I would never refer to the XR as the best iPhone design, it take a lot of design cues from recent models like the 6 and 8 (6 started the curved look and feel, pill shaped buttons, 8 with the glass back/aluminum edge) as well as the all screen look of the X, but it doesn't do them the best per se. It's more like a "best of" smorgasbord.

In terms of superior design, I would say the 5s (more so than the SE) and X/Xs are standouts in design.

5s looked really sharp with the chamfered edges and touch ID ring complementing the sleek aluminum glass colours and squared design of the iPhone 5, with a more "mature" toned look and colours that contrasted well. The iPhone 5 and 5s were also brilliantly light...felt invisible in your pocket. 5s is still sharp to look at today.

4/4s looked great. Staples of smartphone design even today...glass with steel. Beautiful to look at and hold.

the iPhone 8 also matured the 6 design language to hide the antennas with the glass back and blend it between an aluminum frame, which the Xr moved forward

And the X/Xs I would say are superior in design to the Xr, as they are slimmer, thinner bezels, lighter, smaller and easier to hold, and the steel bands look absolutely fantastic. They are just sleeker versions of the same design language that the Xr implements, so while the Xr is a looker and underrated device, it is not the "best" iPhone design

For me, the iPhone X/Xs is overall better. Once Apple figures out how to remove the notch and have a truly all screen design, we will have a winner.

Well Xr still has room for improvement in the bezel area when it comes to design - the Xr bezels are thicker on the sides than the side bezels of the iPhone 6,7,8, and they are thicker than the X/Xs so naturally the comparisons will be made.

The difference in thickness of the Xr and Xs bezels despite being so little is also the similar as some Android phones with their "chins" vs their side bezels, which also adds to narrative of the Xr bezels

Are they actually an issue though? I do not think so. They are what they are, the phone still has the all screen + notch design, the phone is still perfectly fine otherwise and in some ways superior (best battery on an iPhone yet)

but regarding the bezels, its a limitation of the LCD tech Apple has used. They did their best, but arguably there is room for future improvement

I think it’s fair to say it’s your favorite iPhone design ever, but not the best. It’s all subjective. My favorite iPhone ever is my current red XR, and trust me, I’ve owned them all including the Max lol.

I like it for a multitude of reasons and price is certainly a big factor into that. And definitely this wonderful red color.

Worth the 46% markup? Certainly not

If someone wants a Plus sized phone with a telephoto lens, 4 GB of RAM, 3D Touch, smaller bezels, OLED and full HD, it really is the only option.

I'd go for 256 at minimum here. A 256 GB iPhone XR would be close to 1k for me personally. Hardly a budget phone.

That depends. Is an OLED panel, 3D Touch and telephoto lens along with aesthetics with the stainless bands ‘worth’ it to the consumer? For some it is, or for some, they just want the ‘top of the line iPhone’ with Apple. Depends what you value.

I hope that I never get to the point where I pick which phone I buy due to color.

I think I past that point, thank goodness, a few years ago.
And why is that, as you insinuate, a bad thing? The phone you buy, in whatever color you purchase it in, is very much a reflection of personality and personal taste. Same as with whatever case you use.

I've owned every iPhone since Apple released it in 2007. Each was had its strengths and weaknesses.

When I bought the iPhone X on launch day last year, I thought Apple FINALLY made the right decision on the design, aesthetics, function, and form. Thought that I would not upgrade this year, keeping my X for another. Then Apple introduced eSim, and I was like, well, I'm upgrading now! SO on launch day this year, I purchased a 64GB XS Max. Like the phone, but I can tell you straight up, my X was just as good. eSim wasn't active yet, so it was a waiting game. Then the XR came out later in October. My wife originally bought the blue 64GB XR. I started using it, and was blown away with it. Yes, having the Max and the XR side by side you could see subtle differences in the screen res and colors, but nothing that said OMG, the XS/Max phones are worth the price premium they were asking. So I did some thinking, and while I still could get my full price back for the Max by selling it on eBay, I did just that. Bought my Red 128GB XR and have never looked back. Returned my wife's 64GB blue XR and exchanged it for the coral 128GB XR. Switched to Verizon a week ago, jumped on the BOGO sale and all the kids have XR"s as well now.

The XR hits a sweet spot. No, its not the same premium materials as the XS/Max, but for the price difference, it's s a great phone, and does 99% of what the XS/Max does. Comparing the OLED to the LCD, its like walking into Best Buy looking to buy a TV and you get sucked into the bright vivd colors of the tv's on demo/store mode. The LCD to ME is more natural looking. Apple has done a tremendous job on there LCD tech. As for bezels, they are thicker, but really? Talking a mm!

Each to there own however. This years iPhone's all have the strengths and weaknesses. For me, I'll take the savings and enjoy my colorful phone with wider bezels and substandard LCD.

I have an iPhone XS Max and an iPhone XR I use as my work phone, i absolutely love the design of my XS max but i have found myself loving the iPhone XRs design even more and the reason for this is the gorgeous colour, strangely enough the thicker bezels and the fact I’m able to use an apple made clear case on it. This is something I have always wanted as I can really enjoy the look of the iPhone while using it. Does anyone feel the same way as me, do you prefer the iPhone XR design over the XS? I look forward to hearing all of your opinions

If the XR was available in the 5.8" size, I would have already bought one. The only thing keeping me from it is that I will not go bigger than 5.8" (in the iPhone X style) for a smartphone.

The XR red is stunning. But yeah, the limitations of the display kind of disqualify it. i would say the X is the best designed iPhone. That sort of includes the XS, of course. The XS Max is good, too, but IMHO the ability to get a huge 5.8" display on a device the size of the X gets extra points.

Because I do not consider the iPhone to be a fashion statement. It is a business tool to me.

I did not “mean to insinuate” anything, but buying a particular iPhone model because it is offered is a particular color is a poor decision.

Technically, I think it's an "instrument" or an "apparatus" that does more than one thing, but your point is still a good one.

Eh, folks can buy whatever they want for whatever reasons they feel is appropriate for them. A poor decision for you may be a good decision for the next person.
