None of the previous LCD models of iPhone going all the way back to the original one 7 years ago used PWM to dim the screen. There's no reason to fear that the XR will either. PWM is an OLED curse. Not LCD.

Thx. But i want to be sure. Iphone x caused me serious eye strain and headaches.

^ This. I wouldn’t be concerned with it but I would also recommend waiting for reviews. Patience is a virtue.
 
Yep, as far as I know pwm is only used on LED displays - you should be safe with the LCD panel in the XR. One of my main reasons for considering the XR over one of the XS models as I tend to be sensitive to that kind of thing as well (and I tend to keep my screens on the dimmer side).
 
You might have gotten more responses if you asked with real words. Guessing not many folks know what the hell a PWN is and if it should be free or paid upgrade.
