I am finding calls, reception wise and speaker quality excellent on my XR, better than XSMax and iP8 i have had over the last few months.

Seems like my wife's day one Iphone XR has reception issues, both with cellular signal and with random wifi disconnects. Is it worth exchanging it for a later production date unit? Seems like it was established on this forum that there is a variance in reception with XS and XS Max models. What are my chances to persuade Apple to take it back in return for an Iphone X? Thanks!
[doublepost=1559397374][/doublepost]I have owned only IPhones since the very first one came out. I own a tech camera store, we use iPhones and macs. I recently upgraded my wife’s and I IPhone 6S plus’s for the new IPhone XR. They had a buy one at 750 and get second one free. The LTE download speeds are 0.45 everywhere. Yes we did all the resets, tricks standing on on leg etc...
I am so disappointed that Apple is not recalling these phones or admitting this is a hardware issue with the inferior Intel chip.
Verizon is replacing the phones with refurbished models for my NEW phones, but I suspect hey will have the same issues. Long time IPhone, MAC, Apple user going to buy an android today. Apple seems far behind now. They use to be known for quality. I cannot believe they released a phone that cannot do the one thing it’s suppose to which is work on cell towers. Both our new XR’s are acting the same way. Standing in same place when an employee has a Samsung Galaxy S8 and they are getting 45.0 download speeds and my new XR get 0.45 . I cannot believe that Apple has no more quality control than that.

Iphone X with CDMA has a good Qualcomm modem and IMHO better choice than XR given OLED screen

Why is it that so many iphone users equate reception with download speeds? Download speed probably has more to do with network congestion than signal. You can have poor download speeds with a great signal and vice versa. The way to find out how good the signal is, is by measuring the db level. Since there are no ios apps that make this easy to see, you need to go into service mode to see it. In the dialer, dial *3001#12345#* then at the next screen choose LTE, then "serving cell measure" and in the next screen look for the entry next to "rsrp0." This is your signal strength in db. A great signal is below -90db. I good one between -90 and -105db. Anything past -120db and you're looking at dropped calls.
You are less likely to have good download speeds at these poorer strengths but as I said earlier, your download speed can vary (A LOT) no matter what the db is.

By the way, I think early Xr phones did have some connection issues that have been mainly cleared up.

I've had issues with wifi on the XR since day one unfortunately. I can say it has gotten somewhat better with iOS and/or modem updates in iOS. Compared to my iPhone 7 the XR has weaker signal, has dropped the connection & struggles with 5GHz connections. I do think it is the Intel modem at this point.

I just got the XR 5 days ago. I’m coming from a 5s with no reception issues. The XR has been horrible with reception so far. I updated to iOS 13 and am still having issues.

Which Apple model do people recommend since the X series is highly lacking in quality? Or would you recommend Android at this point? Since Jobs left Apple has gone downhill.

I went from a a Pixel to the XR. I thought my XR had bad reception, until I moved to the Note 10+. Everything I ever read talks about the higher general speeds of Samsung phones, etc. Every kind of signal, cellular, data, WiFi was all perceptibly worse than the XR. My WiFi at work is essentially non-existant. Needed to send my wife something over LTE. Didn’t have any signal with the Note. Couldn’t stand the gestures either. I was restarting the phone multiple times a day because it would just be “stuck” mid-loading of a website, including on my WiFi at home. I took it back and got the Pro Max. Haven’t had any issues and I’m on the beta.

I think consistent phone quality in general seems hard to come by these days. Pixel has issues galore, the XR has some issues, the Note—the most excited I had been about a phone in years—but let down other than the screen and the cameras—not problems with the Pro, yet.

Good to know. It’s sad we’ve got so much tech and can’t seem to come out with an improved device. The phone has to be a phone first and foremost. Can’t do that and I don’t care about the other bells and whistles on it.

I’m looking at LG phones. They’re the only phones I never had a problem with. I haven’t had one since before Apple phones though. I was looking at the A50 Samsung but have read the XR is supposed to be better. I think I may try to do the 11 pro but it’ll cost me more. I’m thinking of backtracking to an 8 bc of this....basically not sure what to get bc there is no good choice unless you’ve got $$$.

How the FCC is letting Apple get away with faulty phones is beyond me. Clearly there’s a known issue here like Samsung’s batteries blowing up in the note 7’s.

A lot of people actually seem to really like the LGs. Juan Bagnell on YouTube is a big fan of them—something I would check out if you’re really thinking about it. He does a pretty decent job of being fair I think. Other than the slow updates (most Android phones, but what do you REALLY get with the updates that’s of real value?) seem like a solid value, especially after the first few months when the prices fall.
