Has anyone else noticed the sound for the ringer/texts is lower after 12.0.1? I raise up the volume and it seems to do nothing.

Has the new modem update helped with LTE connections and throughput?

I see beta 3 of 12.1 is available. It'll be interesting to hear if this has any changes to help LTE.
You know I have noticed that my phone is doing better outside when I am off my wifi but have my one to two bars of LTE so subjectively I would say yes

I thought I was having an issue with alarm volume, however it appears to be only when the the phone is unlocked with Face ID. If the device is not currently in use the device’s volume will sound at the pre-set level.

Oh that's right I forgot about that feature. If you are looking at your phone while your alarm is going off it lowers the volume too :)

I’ve had iPhones all the way back to the 3GS and this is the first time, with a XS Max, that I’ve been home and someone’s had to message me because they tried to call and couldn’t get through. I also took a call and had to go outside my house in an attempt to get a better signal because the person calling couldn’t hear me. The former is a huge issue because I run my own business. I hope this problem is able to be fixed soon because I can’t have a mobile that an only intermittently take calls and/or have poor signal issues.

That’s horrible.

If you don’t mind me asking, when did you get your Max, and did you order it online from Apple, or get it at an Apple store, or through your carrier?

It’s cool to ask :) I got it on release day through the upgrade programme, from the Norwich (UK) Apple Store.

Has 12.2 beta 4 helped the connectivity issues? Are their carrier updates as part of 12.1?

T Mobile still on Carrier 33.0, with 12.0.1.

I feel for you. So frustrating!

I had the same issues with 2 different Maxes. Returned the first one and the 2nd is going back this week.

Is this problem still ongoing for Verizon or have the modem/carrier updates fixed this issue or atleast made it more bearable?

I had to return my launch day iPhone XS because I was getting no signal at work while my old iPhone 8 would get 3-4 bars without any issue. I was also having issues with phone getting stuck in 3G and wifi defaulting to 2.4ghz network.

I am wanting to still get the XS Max but if the issues still exist it's not worth it. Thanks in advance!

I’d wait for the new iOS update coming this week to see if it helps.

I decided to test Wi-Fi speeds with iPad Pro vs. my iPhone X’s max using the three wireless networks I have in my house, both devices next to each other running the latest non beta software using Speedtest connected to same server. I have gigabit ATT internet service connected via an ATT supplied router with its wireless capabilities, Google Mesh, and Apple Wi-Fi. Accross all 3 networks, with cell service deactivated, the iPad Pro was dramatically faster example, iPad got 200+ mgbs download speeds and the iPhone X’s max got 18 mgbs. I have also experienced cell call issues for the first time ever in my house. The iPhone X’s max is a disappointment and needs to be fixed. My iPhone X’s max was purchased from Apple Day 1 delivery carrier free.

Anyone else compared they iPad to the iPhone?

3 Tests on ATT 45 Mbps WiFi.

iPhone XS.......44.9 / 5.91 - 42.4 / 6.01 - 44.2 / 5.83

iPad Pro 10.5...48 / 5.9 - 43.6 / 5.94 - 45.5 / 6.02

Thanks for posting your results. I will repeat my tests tonight. Does your wireless network have separate SSIDs for the 2.4 and 5 ghz networks? Mine does not but has both. My results may reflect the iPhone selecting the slower of the two.

I tried 2 Maxes and they both just had poor connectivity both on WiFi and cellular compared to iPad and other phones all on the same WiFi or carrier. Returned them both.

I didn’t have as much issues with WIFI. My other iPhones always dropped to the 2.4 ghz on my AirPort Extreme after I got to far away or left and came back. None would go to my 5 ghz until I reselected it. So not a big change in that regard with my Xs. I have weak AT&T in neighborhood. Verizon same just no close towers. Tended to be mostly 1bar sometimes 2 on all phones not any changes much on Xs with 12.0 or 12.01. With 12.1 I got two cell bars consistently just now and with too many walls 1 bar. But for first time in house I got 3 bars a noticeable change i ran tests and am getting 22-25 mb down now with cell at house and 5-7 up. A major improvement over 12.0 and 12.01 an in fact over my X. I am getting as I had hoped (finally) improvements over earlier phones and even my Xs on pre 12.1 iOS

This sounds great -hopeful for those still having problems.

I just returned mine yesterday for the same issues.

I have been using my XS Max for two weeks now.

It's fine.

WiFi is a touch less in performance when further from AP
compared to my iPhone 6S Plus, but it's negligible ... 10% or so.
When closer to the WiFi AP it is up to 20% faster. (UniFi PRO, 350 - 510 Mbits)

LTE is sometimes comparable to my iPhone 6S Plus (a touch slower uploads perhaps)
and sometimes it is twice as fast - the times when old 2x2 antena gets owned by the 4x4 advantage.

I have been doing sporadic tests troughout the day the whole two weeks and during that
time twice (out of maybe a 100) I encountered a weird LTE glitch: speed would max out at about 0.5 Mbit up/down
with crazy high pings.
- 1st time it was because of very weak carrier signal, and improved when I chose another carrier.
- 2nd time was at home when I usually get 30-60 Mbit LTE.
This time I toggled mobile data on/off switch to reset the LTE connection, and speeds where back to normal.

At this point I believe it might be caused by the towers or Intel modem compatibilty/power management.
I usually use Wi-Fi Calling at home.

Again... This is not a hardware issue, at least not for me.

No dropped calls, no reception problems, usual dead zones as with my old Qualcomm iPhone 6S Plus.

If you're still reading this thread and waiting - Buy one, update the iOS,
test is out and see for yourself - It's fine.

Or wait longer and possibly get one with an LG OLED Display - either way, your taking a risk ;P

I was just about to return my third XS Max and I already did a factory reset but I decided to set it back up one last time before I returned it. For some odd reason, this time it’s working flawlessly. I haven’t had any dropped calls, and even with LTE only on two bars I’m getting a signal comparable to my Galaxy S9+. This is even in areas that were dropping down to 3G and not even let me run a speed test.

I think I’m going to keep it a few more days and see how it goes. I’m on Verizon...Maybe they’ve done something on their end? I’m not sure. The first screenshot is from the XS Max and the second is from the S9+.
