Hi guys,

Surely this level of lens flare isn’t normal?

Nope. Completely bare.
[doublepost=1541967602][/doublepost]Lens is as clean as it can be too.
In that case no it’s not normal, in the one pic it looks like the flash has bounced off something (hence I asked about a case) and sent a shimmer over the lens as it looks quite washed out in the blaring light spots, I’d get it replaced.

Adam.

That’s not lens flare. It’s a reflection.

It is sort of normal in that it is a known behavior happening over several models. Supposedly it is due to the gap between the lens and the glass covering the camera(s).

Then surely it would effect every iPhone XS? Clearly from the other users image above, it doesn’t.

I’m pretty sure it does affect every iPhone XS (and X and 8 and 7...), but it doesn’t show up in every picture. It’s under specific circumstances of light intensity and angle. A simply Google search can provide you with countless articles about it.

Shows up with EVERY photo/video I take where there is a light source. Light intensity and angle is irrelevant in my case.

For those saying it’s not normal, both my X and now my XS Max have significantly more obvious green ghosting of bright light sources, especially in video.

It was something that happened on my 4s, 5s, 6 plus and 6s plus, but it’s worse on the X phones. Still an amazing camera, but I have noticed this.

my XR seems to do this, dont recall my X doing it or 7Plus but idk could just be more observant... dont have either anymore to compare to.

Pointing at the same light source indoors, I have to really twirl my SE to have it show diffused lens flare.

in XR seems to find it more frequently and a defined green dot. But maybe thats the tradeoff for a bigger sensor?

At least im not seeing a copy of certain objects ghosted like some people and multiple green dots

Yes it isn’t flare, it’s some kind of diffusion or scattering effect that is not normal with a clean lens. Might try cleaning it with lens cleaner and a lens cleaning cloth just to be triple dog sure - sometimes that lens gunk is persistent. If that doesn’t help, I’d sure have Apple take a look at it. It does look like a dirty lens, but if it’s internal I’d say that you’ll be getting a new phone.

They are internal lens reflections. Some phone lenses are better than others at controlling these but are very difficult to do when the lenses are so small. I larger lenses used by DSLRs, these reflections can be caused by a filter attached to the front of the lens. These larger lenses have enough room in the so they can hav flat black painted baffles to absorbe the reflections and avoid them.

My XS MAX will produce these reflections under ideal conditions. Not really an issue for me as I see the conditions seldom.

Apple replaced the rear camera module.

Same issue.

It’s on all X series phones. Try to film someone carrying a lit birthday cake into a dark room, You will get green ghosts of the candles every time.
Source: I have 6 brothers and sisters and film a lot of birthday cakes on iPhones.

My girlfriend XR and my XS Max had this green stuff at night in Xmas markets when we tested them side by side. Not a huge problem for us

[doublepost=1548173302][/doublepost]Despite many other comments, it is NOT normal. I get it too in moderately bright shots. Please write to Apple feedback.
If enough people contact them, they may take it seriously. This is the worst flare I ever encountered on any Apple product and my DSLR cameras.
