so far today I've used it for an hour heavy usage and I'm already down to 75% - first full day using it. I'm doubting that it's going to last longer than my iPhone 7 battery at this point lol.

Any idea why it's so bad so far?

Prob using it more as it’s new, or might be indexing, after few days you will get a better idea
Oh yeah... Completely forgot that it finished downloading all my apps this morning. That's probably one of the reasons why.

Not too impressed with batter life ..... I use it a good amount getting about 7 hrs. See stats any thoughts ? And what’s with my Photos running in the background how do I stop that? Thx

O
If you have had the screen on full bright and have been downloading apps, that explains a lot of your usage. Mystery solved.
no, think it’s just been on auto brightness. and under 6 hrs ? Kind of not great ;(

I have an X and I'm thinking of upgrading to the Xs Max.

How much better is the battery life on the Max?

My 8 Plus battery life went down the DAY after I upgraded to iOS 12.
my Max is about the same as the 8 Plus, maybe a little less. i'm certain it's iOS 12 and not the iPhone itself.

And this is normal. Indexing and new issues pop up that were not seen before on the smaller test group, or not addressed yet. I'm not going to be worried for at least a week or so.

That giant screen can use a lot of juice. Turn the brightness way down if you want to conserve power.

These OLED’s the way Apple implements them are power hogs. The X at max brightness on a white background pulls 3.25 Watts. The iPhone 8 Plus pulls 1.52 Watts for comparison. Big difference! I’m willing to be the XS Max is somewhere up around 4.5 Watts max brightness and a white background. Crazy!

The way Apple implements them meaning you can have access to 630-700 nits of brightness at any time.

Wow, it's been a year already since the last iPhone release... oh how I've missed the "I just got my phone 12 minutes ago and the battery life is terrible" threads. HEHE :)
kinda what this forum is about.. lol

Wow. Ok, that's disappointing. Are you sure it's EXACTLY the same? Same usage patterns?
well, hard to tell if exactly LOL! I DID just notice ( and I hate this) went through all my apps and cell data was on! So switched most to off.. should help... if I were to guess I'd say my x and Xs in the household here gets the same under same usage.
[doublepost=1537721654][/doublepost]Besides going through each app and shutting off cellular, anything else I can do to increase battery time? any suggestions? thanks

Wait a couple days. The phone is indexing, restoring apps, probably downloading photos and other iCloud stuff in the background, calculating face/people data, etc. Battery life will improve once all that is done.

I had an 8 plus from December and a max now. I see no difference in battery life yet. Both are solid, but I don’t have enough data yet. One thing that would help is if apple implemented a dark mode. I also tend to keep my brightness around 33% by choice, so my battery life will be better than some peoples who like it brighter. The standby drain is excellent, which is very important.

True I’m only getting close to 6 hours of on screen time as well, I don’t get it with my 8 plus I was getting close to 9 hours!

I’m in the same boat. My battery life is atrocious so far with my XS Max.

I really hope it’s indexing and doing what others are saying. My phone will be at 50%...I’ll simply browse the web for 5 minutes and it will drop 5%. That’s insane.

I have background app refresh turned off, no music playing in the background, etc.

DisplayMate has reported 4.20W max brightness. o_O Accounting for the difference in display size, the Xs Max OLED has the same power usage as the X and Xs.

OLEDs use way more power in real-world usage. People talk about the lower PPI of the Xr's screen, but not about how much more battery life they're going to get when browsing text-based websites such as MR, and most news sites. Unless websites and apps all start transitioning to "dark mode" or whatever, an LCD screen is, in practice, going to get you more juice.

I actually went into my apps and turned cell service off for ones i don’t use much. That helped a lot! And now using OEM charger. Was using Samsung charging plate and for wherever reason I wasn’t getting a strong charge. Yesterday got 8hrs 46 min heavy use.
