Hi guys,

need your help. My XS Max is in the shop, as its not able to go to Photo folder, select picture, click the share button, and then send via SMS.

I dont use iMessage and have never done that. All my iphones have always been able to send a picture from photo album directly via SMS.

However the Phone operator claims that iPhone XS Max cant do that, all previous models could. But in XS Max they changed it so its not possible to send pictures from fotofolder via sms without iMessage.

I dont believe that. Why would they even do something like that, remove possibility to send MMS's without iMessage enabled. Could one of you maybe help me to check? Can you without iMessage send a picture via sms directly from photofolder? I tried on a iPhone 5 and 8 (the 8 is on same IOS as the Max), and both did it without any issues.

Hope that you can help me check if you have this issue on your Max.

thanks,
soren

..send a picture from photo album via sms without having imessage enabled? I believe XS Max in general has a bug in this area, I'm on my second XS Max, and this one also cant send a picture via sms from photos. The repair guy also had a XS Max, he had the same issue. So thats 3 XS Max's. My company iphone 8 can, my wife's iphone 7 and my kids iphone 5's all can do that. but the XS Max cant. at least the 2 I had plus the repair guy's Max. Its not the carrier, because when i put my sim card in my company 8 it can send pictures fine from albums via sms.

its driving me crazy, if you could please give it a try and respond to the poll, it would be appreciated

PLEASE REMEMBER TO TURN OFF iMESSAGE BEFORE TRYING!

Not sure what you mean here.
If I call up a photo, I click on the "options" symbol in lower left. That brings everything I can do with the photo up. Click on the "message" symbol and send to who ever.
How else would it work?

Hi Jagolden,

thanks for taking your time to reply :)

I have never used imessage, and i had all iphones since the 4. however on the XS Max i noticed that Apple remove the functionality to send a picture either directly taken with camera app, or send a picture from the photos album via a text message. (mms). -if you are not using imessage.

I dont have the "message" symbol anymore, and this is my second xs max, and my colleague has the same "issue", and the repair guy who looked at the max also missed that functionality. That is 4 XS Max where the functionality is missing.

my XS Max:

if opening the 3 "dots" (just so show message is not there):

My company iphone 8 (same config, same ios level):

So - it seems that Apple is sort of removing functionality which has always been there, unless you use their imessage functionality. First i thought my Max was broken, so Apple gave me a replacement, but it seems that they just removed the functionality from the XS Max.

Thanks for the details.
I never noticed if it was there or not on my Max (at least on iOS 12).
I’m now using 13 db2 and it offers more options than you can shake a stick at, including sending in a message.
What OS’s are the 8 and Max using?

Theyre both on 12.3.1

I really hope they return the functionality, as all of a sudden i found out how much i have used that during the time. People using iMessage will not notice that its missing all of a sudden.

it would be awesome if its available again in ios 13.

So - as I understood, even with iMessage disabled, you can take a picture and share directly, or go in to albums and send a picture directly with share and then text message? (just poking around if it would be available in ios 13 :) )

thanks again, I appreciate your help.

This bug was corrected in iOS 13.4, now it works again for XS Max. (not sure, but some months ago i posted a "bug finding" report wth video of the bug etc., so maybe they included it after that.
