Well that sucks. Just received this screen protector yesterday from Amazon for my Max. I swear best looking screen protector that protects the entire screen. Looks good too. Oh well. It’s going back.

I returned mine to Amazon and order one with the open notch. It appears the black band on the full screen ones block the sensor.

I think all of them will do it unless they make new ones without the painted edges.
I'm pretty sure it's the painted edges that have the adhesive. At least that's how they are on the Galaxy Phones..

But wait...what exactly am I looking for because on my Max I have this screen protector installed and my proximity sensor is working fine. When on call when I put phone near my ear or face screen turns off...move it away it turns back on.

Either your screen protector has been updated or your sensor is different assuming you got the exact same protector. Take a look at your unused ones and see if the glass had a black painted border.

I cant speak for this brand, but I've had a full screen protector on my phone for over a year with the iphone x that has the black border all the way around and never had an issue

FWIW, I also have the full screen protector with black border. Looks exactly like the ones posted from amazon here.

I got mine put on at a store, so I am not sure what brand it is. It does have the black border though.

Making calls (moving to and from face), camera, sensors, works perfectly - very responsive. As soon as I look at my phone, i swipe up without thinking and its already unlocked, very fast. I like that it protects the entire screen, no edges where the notch is. Doesn't look like I have a protector on.

Again, could be another brand or just an updated glass. Hopefully it works out for you guys.

Hey Folks,

I’ve been noticing that during a call that the screen on my new Max sometimes won’t wake if I move the phone away from my face. This can occur if I have to enter numbers when I call into a company that has an automated phone system.

I’m using Apple’s own leather case and do have a full coverage temper glass protector over the whole screen. I can see all the little circular sensor openings under a light and it’s super clean.

The phone will ALWAYS black out instantly when I make a call and bring the screen to my face. But it seems if I move the phone gently away so I can look at it, the screen won’t wake and I will have to hit the POWER button to wake it.

Has anyone had this issue? Could it be hardware or software? I know we’ve only had the Max for a few days. I’ve Reset, Restored and even attempted to setup as a new iPhone to no avail. It’s like the proximity sensor works in one direction only sometimes.

Thanks so much!

Sorry for the late reply but which brand of protector did you get? I'm assuming you also got the full screen one as well.

Thanks for chiming in. Any chance you have the brand? I'm just curious if the Xs Max has a different proximity sensor or has it placed in a location that is more likely to be blocked vs your X.

I can't find a proper all border one. I've noticed most of them also mess with the ambient light sensor as well...

Yeah. My guess is that a few manufacturers make them and they get packaged and sold to all the sellers so they are all essentially the same product in different packages. It would make sense that the same issues would occur despite the a different brand. My non full coverage screen protector is still working fantastic so i will not update it unless they make one without the black border.

[doublepost=1543419090][/doublepost]Hi,

I started having the same issue on my MAX. My case does come with a screen protector and i thought maybe that was the issue. I removed my case and again I had the same issue where my phone wouldn't wake up.

I'm thinking that when I got my new phone, I used my last restore from my iphone 7 on my Max which caused the issue. I spoke with my mobile carrier and they told me to go to apple.

My next steps: Either call apple for an appointment or reach back out to my mobile carrier for a new phone since i am under warranty.

Same issue here with my iPhone XR. And I also use a full screen protector. Thinking about restoring it before I try to take my screen protector off. You can see the sensors on the uploaded photos.

I Have the same issue
Same issue XS Max. Cannot end calls. Have to shut down to end call. Huge issue when using automated calls ‘push 0 for main menu.’ Black screen so can’t input automated numbers. Very aggravating.

[doublepost=1550079673][/doublepost] I’m having the same issue and it’s so frustrating. I do have a lifeproof full case and i guess I’ll have to switch it out. Anyone find a screen protector for the XR model? The link above is for Max.

HI I have the same problem with my iphone XS. My local store had a look at it, they ran diagnostics on the phone and found no fault on the proximity sensor.

I was told that the screen protector is causing the problem.

I removed the screen protector from my iphone XS screen and the proximity sensor is working fine now

I have the same issue. I’m glad I’m not the only one. But my old iPhone X still had full screen protector and I have never gotten this issue. I hope this is not hardware problem with my XS Max. So annoying.

I'm going to try restoring with iTunes tonight because I'm also having issues with the cell connectivity. Hopefully this fixes both issues.
Did the restore help with your connectivity issues?
I would like to know as i have a 8 plus that momentarily loses reception about twice a day and displays “searching”.
Apple advised me to set up as new, but haven’t got round to doing it yet.

BINGO!!! I removed the full screen tempered glass protector that looked absolutely amazing and my proximity sensor is back in business! A lot of folks will be in for a surprise when their XS Max/XS phones act up with those full glass protectors. Now I have to reorder the notched protectors for both my Max and my wife’s XS. Thanks to all those who chimes in.

It would seem pretty clear not to cover over any sensors even with a clear protector.
Good manufacturers had a cut out for the notch.
We only use Zagg glass screen protectors for all our iOS devices.

I never actually did a restore but I would recommend doing it and then if the issue still occurs, you have more of a case to bring to Apple.
