Hey guys, I’m thinking about to replace my iPhone 8 Plus and buy a new iPhone but I’m still undecided which one to buy. I consider between the XS Max and iPhone 11 (not the Pro one). I want to keep the phone for 2 years.

The XS Max has the better design for me and OLED but an older processor. On the other hand the iPhone 11 has the better processor but thicker bezels and smaller resolution. Price difference in Germany is about 200€ (XS Max 256GB 1100€ and iPhone 11 128GB 850€). 128GB would be enough for me.

Hard to decide for me. What are your thoughts?

but an older processor.
Its a smartphone, what exactly will you be using, or doing that will be stressing the CPU on the phone? I think many of us fall into the trap that we need the fasted processor - on a computer that can make sense, but a smartphone, I fail to see the need for so much processing power.

I'm getting iPhone 11 coming FROM the XS Max. Mainly I wanted a smaller form factor but can't justify the cost of the Pro this year. Display is a downgrade for sure and will lose out of telephoto but iPhone 11 will have better:

Battery Life
Front facing camera 12MP vs 7MP
Improved Face ID
Ultra wide camera
Night mode
Next gen smart HDR
Audio zoom
quick take video
U1 chip

You really have to weigh up what features you value the most

What suits you best? A larger display or smaller one?
What are your priorities.

You cannot go wrong with any of the models out, but you need to pick the one that is most right for you.

I remember earlier this year I was on a bus and watching some kid with what looked like an iPhone 6 or 6s more likely a 6 based on the home button. Anyway she was rushing between apps to the home screen and back forth and I was like wtf! The forums say that phone is slow! Yet what I saw was buttery smooth and flawless. She was using the usually candidate apps with all the chat features. She may have even been listening to music at the same time.

I think people may fill their phones up to the brim and that causes slowdowns.

TLDR - get the one your heart wants as the price is soon forgotten. You’ll get more money. You won’t get more time.

Pre-ordered the iPhone 11 coming from the X, and the above advantages are spot-on.

Battery life though I think is going to be a real advantage too this year for the iPhone 11. The big time advertised battery life increase of this year's OLED Pro models has to be with the use of dark mode given that OLED screens "turn off" to produce those great black colors. Dark mode should also extend the batter life of the older OLED display X and Xs iPhones as well with iOS 13. My wife has the Xs Max, so I'll be watching this closely.

I'm going from the XS to the 11. I don't care that much about the camera differences between the 11 and 11 Pro - I just want a camera that will generally take good pictures without me having to think about it or do much editing. I also don't care that much about the OLED vs. LCD screens - I was comparing the XS and an XR the other day, and I just didn't see the big deal. For me, I'm primarily interested in trying out a slightly larger screen and getting the better battery life. If the Max weren't $400 more, I might try that out instead this year, but I also worry whether the Max is a little too big for me.

Untrue. Have you used the XR? My son has one it's an outstanding phone. There's no noticeable difference in the display. Most of the "experts" claiming it's only LCD that I've shown it to, can't tell which is LCD and which is OLED compared to my Max. They id the Max just because it's bigger.

No offense but it doesn’t take an expert to tell the difference in LCD and OLED. Very few non OLED phones are being made these days.

No offense taken sir, but the average person can't tell the difference between Apples lCD and OLED displays. The the XR is outstanding and I can't see why the 11 would be any different. I'd have the XR myself if it had a telephoto lens.

How much better battery life are we talking? I'm considering the same switch

If you care about display more: Xs Max
If you care about camera more: iPhone 11

Rest is pretty much irrelevant, including performance. A12 is still blistering fast, same goes for the A11.

I already bought the 11 and I’m really satisfied. Display looks good for me but thank you

But LCD displays were the norm back then before Samsung came up with the OLED display. I remember how Apple used to promote its LCD Retina display and now all of sudden its “garbage”.

XS Max. premium build quality, excellent 6.5” AMOLED display, still a awesome device for several years to come.

iphone 11 Takes great photos and offers a pretty close experience to the best phone around I think for a pretty good deal.
