Sell the XS before the new iPhone is released and put it in a nice 401k.
Stick to the 8 until the new phone this fall and then sell the 8 to fund the new phone.
I don't have advice, but I'm enjoying your thread. Wife and I recently upgraded our Iphones and we usually buy a generation or two old, so we both bought the 8. I felt at the time that we probably should have bought an XS or XR but I just liked the haptic home button and touch ID of the 8. It's just interesting to hear you say that you rotate back and forth between the 8 and the XS.
I agree. At this point in time it's a mere two months. Do some legwork on what you can get for the phones and then do the math. You can guess about what the iphone 11 or (XI) will cost and see if the math works.Sell the XS before the new iPhone is released and put it in a nice 401k.

I understand your comment about the 8 becoming a relic, but I think we are entering different times. For instance, the 6s, 7, and 8 are still being sold by Apple today as new phones. I think we are going to see phones being used longer than they used to be. Anyway, that's my opinion for what it's worth.

While I agree with you that some are holding on to their phones for longer periods of time, but 1 or 2 generation old phones for the home button and such is just delaying the inevitable of you having to switch over. Idk I would never buy a phone 2 generations behind with a new generation getting ready to already drop.I understand your comment about the 8 becoming a relic, but I think we are entering different times. There are rumors that the new iPhone size will be 5.4" which is perfect. The 5.8" X is slightly bigger than an 8 so with reduced bezels and the 5.4" screen size, the next iPhone should be almost identical in size to the 8. Because of that, I am holding onto my X for one more year. It is ever so slightly too big for me.
I agree, this sounds very interesting. For me the iphone 8 is the perfect carry size.
