I want to get either the iPhone Xs or Xr. I love to take food pictures so one reason to go for the Xs would be the dual cameras for portrait photos of objects.

Unfortunately I haven't found any examples of food portrait photos. Also at the store the Xs seemed to struggle a bit with recognizing non-human objects.

Is it worth it to get the Xs instead of the Xr for this purpose?

I don’t think it’s worth it just for food photos. But my Xs Max is taking some awesome photos.

I just tried the Xs again at the store. Portrait mode doesn't work with close objects.

Thanks for the pictures. What I actually meant was pictures taken with portrait mode to get a blurry background :)

    For example

XR won't blur the background so much, so it's more reasonable to get an iPhone XS.
Here's an example of mine food photo taken with the portrait mode.
However, there's a camera app called Halide that can shot portraits of everything but I'm not sure how it's performing with food.

It's pretty decent for posting on Instagram after cropping. I probably wouldn't use it on a food blog though.

I tried Halide in the store hoping that I could get more close-up portrait pics but I wasn't very impressed by the results (not much blur)

A big limitation of the Xs portrait mode is the minimum distance.

You can adjust the blur after the photo is taken. Just go to the photo and press Edit, then you will see an slider to change the blur effect.

Get the XR then download a copy of “Focus”, available in App Store.

I got the XS and taking portrait photos of food doesn’t work very well. I need to move too far away with the telephoto lens.

I have a food blog so I was hoping I could replace my normal camera with the iPhone but it’s not good enough.
