Not sure how it broke, been using the Spigen Tough Armor case since day one, I took the phone out to clean the back and to my surprise there was a crack from the camera lens area all the way across the screen.

A new iPhone is coming out soon, should I wait and trade it in? I don't know if apple would take a phone that has a cracked back...

I have the AppleCare+, but from my understanding most likely they will replace the whole phone since they won't repair the back glass and have to pay the $100 deductible...

Just use AppleCare to repair. That’s why u paid for it, no?
Trade in for a broken phone is much less value

Pay the deductible. Stinks but the alternative (full price repair) is terrible.

Only thing is 4 months ago Apple replaced the front screen that was cracked. So I am not sure by then if the rear glass was compromised.

Unlucky me, I used my two incidents already, one for the rear camera direct replacement and one for the front glass.
So that used up both so I am kinda screwed, they want $599 to get a replacement...
I might have to consider third party option for repair, but the problem is most repair shops they use aftermarket back glass with no Apple logo in the back.

At that price, you might as well buy new on sale.

Well Apple would provide me a brand new one at $600...And still paying off my current phone. This is a hard pill to swallow. I’ve had AppleCare over the years but never had to use it until the latest iPhone XS Max... just my luck.

I am super bummed out. I guess life sometimes just sucks.

Caution: If you’re using third-party for anything with a specific iPhone, make sure it’s a company that stands behind their work and uses quality parts. There are a lot of third-party companies that do a hack job on the iPhone when it comes to repair, especially for display replacements, ect.

You could do it yourself for about $100.

(I am certainly NOT recommending you do so, unless you have a lot of experience though. It is very difficult.)

Sorry for u. It’s a shame that the back is not as easily repairable as the screen. Apple did here the same bad job as with the riveted keyboards on the macbooks.

I remember the days when a Nexus 4 glas back with inductive charging was 50€ and exchanged in 2mins.

If you're to opt for a third-party repair, ask them or find an original housing for your phone. Much better choice than having them replace the back glass.

I just went ahead and got a replacement, too much headache to go through third party.

Anyways, happy with my new replacement which appears to be brand new instead of a refurbished one.
My XS Max the old one battery was at 95% battery health less than a year which was surprising. So it’s good to also have a battery at 100% health again.
