Are you going to ship your pre-order to ship to you (home, office, etc.) or are you going to pick it up in store? I kind of want to pick it up in store but I was wondering how long this would take? I know there’s separate lines but I’ve read horror stories of people showing up way before their pick up window and lines taking hours before you even get checked in and leave with your phone. Seeing how I live in San Diego, I could expect a long line for reservations. What is the process like?

Also, is there huge demand for the Xs? If not, then the lines probably won’t be that bad.

I’d like to know this as well. I live in Vancouver Canada and the store is in downtown. I don’t wanna wait in line just to miss my window for pick up.

I guess it depends on where you live. My area is very rural, I don’t dare have them deliver without a signature, and the FedEx and UPS stores are far from here. The Apple store is far too but I often have to drive near there for work so I’ll pick it up.

The thing about having it shipped is that it’s so much fun watching it make its way to your house, especially with others on this forum. That’s something I look forward to every year.

Last year I had my X held at the UPS CC. This year I plan on getting my Max at the store. If anyone decides to have it shipped to their house I’d have it held at the UPS hub.
Is it better to have it held at the hub than having it delivered to you?

If you want it faster have it held at the hub. Just think how long you’ll have to wait for your ups guy to deliver it..
Is a UPS Customer Center a "Hub"
like this one below.

UPS CC - SAN FRANCISCO
320 SAN BRUNO AVE, SAN FRANCISCO, CA, 94103
Tel: 8007425877

Closes at 7:00 PM

I’m gonna ship to home and soon as tracking info is available I’ll switch location to a Walgreens ( if using fedex) or an access point(ups). I can wait a day or two after launch day as long as I can pick up my XS Max with no issue

Im working on friday so I have it delivered to nearest post office. So I can pick it up after work.

I always had it shipped to my home, it would arrive around 2:30, 3:30.
Question, so when you have it shipped to the store, do you just go there when it opens - skip the line and pick your phone up?

When doing in-store pickup, they have a separate pre-order only line who goes first when picking up the phone. In that sense, you are indeed skipping the much larger, general public line. Plus, you have a guaranteed unit.

Off topic, but I was at the Apple Store in Fashion Valley Mall in June. I love San Diego!

It is for me: I pick mine up at the hub at 8:00 am when they open. There’s never been more than 10 people waiting at my hub.

For the last launch, I did in store pick up and you could actually choose a time slot. If you arrived before your time slot, they wouldn’t serve you.

I guess that would depend on how busy the store is. I've arrived 1 hour before my time slot and they were able to serve me right away and walked out with a phone in less than 5 minutes.

How do you get UPS to keep it at your local hub? Do you do something different at the time of order or do you tell UPS during shipment you want them to hold it at the hub?

Once you receive your tracking number you can then choose hold for pick up. You will want to sign up for UPS MyChoice.

As much as i want to trust the UPS guys, my house is literally on their last tours, they always get to me around 6-7pm. Last 2 years I've had them even show up on the website as "delayed till next monday" situation but someone came at the last minute. I just don't trust them to deliver to me on time on such busy day, I am going to go for store pick up as my number 1 option.

Yeah Fashion Valley is great! Too bad we don't have that much Apple Stores in SD except for La Jolla, Otay Ranch, and Fashion Valley.
I would do the hub, but I think the on in SD is 30 minutes from where I live, and I don't want to drive that far lol.
