No iPhone 19

The iPhone 17 came out in 2025 and we're expecting the iPhone 18 line in 2026. The iPhone 19 in 2027 would be the next logical step, but Apple is probably going to skip the iPhone 19.

In 2017, Apple released both the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X with no iPhone 9, and in 2027, we'll probably transition from the iPhone 18 to the iPhone 20, the iPhone XX, or whatever else Apple decides to name the anniversary iPhone.
Ah yes, classic Tim Cook-style illogical counting:

• iPhone 7 followed by iPhone 8 and iPhone X (instead of iPhone 9)
• macOS 10.15 followed by macOS 11 (instead of macOS 10.16)
• macOS 15 followed by macOS 26 (instead of macOS 16)
• macOS 26 being released in 2025 instead of 2026
• iOS 18 followed by iOS 26 (instead of iOS 19; and also breaking the tradition of the A-series CPU having the same number as the iOS version that is released alongside it)
• iOS 26 being released in 2025 instead of 2026

The only counting Cook knows how to do is bean counting.

Using a curved display would be a big mistake. Android makers have already been there and done that and stopped making them because of how easy it is to crack the sides.

And don't get me started on Xbox naming. People can get snarky over the most mundane of things.

Based on current trends in the iPhone space, it’s hard to get excited about this upcoming model.

The true cornerstones of my Apple ecosystem beginning many years ago have been my MacBook laptops. Currently a 13” M3 MacBook Air and 16” M4 Max MacBook Pro, they serve me very nicely. My workflow further enhanced by the various iPads I use, these are my trusted devices.

When it comes to iPhones I have been all-in since the beginning but now I’m beginning to question the future.

After nagging issues experienced over the last couple of years with Pro and Pro Max models, along with the well known issues with my iPhone Air I’m losing interest.

Given I’ve also carried an Android for work over the same timeframe and experienced the freedom of an open platform, while not perfect, it’s very tempting to consider leaving iPhones behind.

My Android phone interfaces with my Apple ecosystem seamlessly which would make abandoning iPhone easy. Time will tell.

So many changes. No doubt it will be special. Will be great if Apple can have both the FaceID and front camera under the screen. Also possible that only the FaceID sensor might go under the screen. Waiting to hear more on how exactly the bezel free/curved design will look. Think Apple will price it at $1499 for the base storage variant.

Don’t want an iPhone that has a screen wrapping around the sides that will cost way more and I can’t use with a protective case. Will they have invincible glass by then? Wonder what will happen to all the buttons. Maybe they’re doing this to save money since they wouldn’t need any physical buttons and can simplify manufacturing? Seems like it would suck to actually use, though.

Under display cameras and Face ID would be cool, even if they can only get it down to a hole punch for the main camera. I’d even take an ultrasonic or whatever under display TouchID. Wonder if they can leverage AI to make an under display camera look really clear?

20 stops of dynamic range would be crazy. Doesn’t it currently have around 12? My Sony mirrorless has something between 14-15. 20 might be overkill? Could seem over processed.

2nm chips are gonna be crazy. I’m upgrading my iPad Pro M1 when those hit. Don’t see much point for the iPhone, but maybe battery life? Although current battery life is really good, so they’ll probably make them thinner and lighter.

Why not iPhone 27? Simple and clean. But no… rumors, rumors, rumors. The marketing of Apple blown so. And every one is listening. Please stop this nonsense.

I have one question, Why iPhones doesn’t have mini led display. From my point of view miniLed is better than OLED, cheaper and more reliable

I guess they are doing it purely for PR reasons, so they can make something sound like “amazing!! Innovation” while it is not.

The iPhone X? Wasn’t really innovative at all, just a large screen slab, I disliked it when it came out and was about to grab 8 Plus but went with Samsung s10+ instead.

Same for “26”, most people agree it is awful, maybe the most awful release ever since the first iPhone.

Apple under this leadership has finally lost its plot

Yeah it will all be reliant on HDR. Photos will probably look like they were generated by GPT.

Sony is already bragging about “AI sensors” that will be denoising on the RAW level, exactly what Apple wants, but not what the pros are after.

Even modern mirrorless cameras these days overprocess and oversharpen, and iPhone is like a pinnacle of overprocessing (together with Pixel), even Samsung toned it down in their latest phones.

At this point I don’t understand who asks for unnatural looking photos… 20 stops… why not just learn how to shoot🤣

They compare it to human vision. Well, human vision is much more deep to compare it to algorithms. Someone says human vision equals to 22 or 24 mm, while it is wrong: we don’t see image on peripheral sides when we focus on something, we can move to peripheral vision whenever we want, but in most cases our vision is 35 to 50mm to film equivalent.

Also we cannot look into bright sun or skies for long time, as well as we cannot see in nearly complete darkness, and algorithms will already make image so bright at night like it was shot during daytime, as well as inflate skies to unnatural levels, or ruin natural shadow gradation during sunset/sunrise

I suspect something is off with number 9 in Cupertino. No, seriously, maybe some weird superstition from Steve Jobs? I don’t see Cook a superstitious person, but I do see him honoring Jobs memory…

If you think about it, no iPhone 9, no iPhone 19, no iOS 19… maybe number 9 is ugly or a bad luck number in Asia? But as far as I know, number 4 represents death in Asia, right @JPack? And there was an iPhone 4, and a 4S, and both were huge successes…

On the other hand, there was iOS 9🙂 And it was the last one to feature classic “slide-to-unlock” btw

A camera under the display means that you hide a part of the display, if you put a sticker over the camera.

And Face ID is still a bad way to unlock your phone. Law enforcement can trick you into unlocking your phone with your face, but they can't find out your password.
