Might be a REALLY dumb question. However, I was having issues with my phone on silent mode not vibrating at all when I got a text message (I've been playing with settings).

Question: The left side of your iPhone 8 that you toggle on and off for ringer on/off. Previously you'd feel the phone vibrate when you turned it off. Does your iPhone 8 still vibrate when you do this? Ultimately, Im trying to determine if I have a bigger issue.

Thank you!

Yes, you should feel it vibrate.

Before you do anything, just restart the phone. It works wonders on this sort of thing.

mine works 100% of the time if the screen is on. when off, it seems to have an occasional miss where it won't vibrate which is kind of weird, but i think every iphone ive had has been like that. i did however notice a couple times where if i was holding the phone sideways or something weird and toggled the switch with the screen off it seemed to have a delayed vibrate when i turned the phone back to a more normal flat orientation. weird, probably a software bug and not really worth worrying about on an otherwise perfect phone i suppose.

Make sure these settings are on for the vibration to occur. Also make sure that for Text Tone, on that same page, vibrate is enabled (see attachments).

Hasn't been vibrating with iPhone 7 even back on iOS 10 when you switch to silent.

I noticed problems with this on my 8+ since day 1. When the screen is on, the side button will make it vibrate. If the screen is off but I locked it recently (within about 30 seconds or so) then it will still vibrate. After this point, it doesn’t vibrate at all until I turn the screen on. Once I turn the screen on it will vibrate right when it turns back on, like a delayed reaction to the side button. This has never happened to me on earlier models as I often used the switch in my pocket to make sure my phone was on vibrate

Thanks! Yes - I've turned the phone on/off and played with those settings. I had "System Hepatics" turned off and I'd bet that's the reason why I wasn't feeling it vibrate when switched to silent (as I am now). I also have noticed you don't get the alert on your screen (when not on) that you've flipped.

I'm going to pay attention today (as this is the much larger issue) when people texted me, & my phone is in silent mode yesterday, I wasn't feeling a vibration nor was I seeing the incoming text on my screen.

Thanks!

This is how my 8 works too; just tested it!
