Why do we get such noobish stuff like these so much?

1) Companies will buy up tons of domain names that are similar to them just to keep faux sites from popping up and just in case they have future ideas. I wouldn't be shocked if Nintendo owned the wiihd.com domain, Sony owned playstation4.com, and Microsoft owned xbox720.com. None of those is even close to being reality (or even an actual product), but someone probably brainstormed and thought it would be good to buy them. It costs maybe $10/year to hold on to a domain versus the thousands it would cost to buy it back from someone else.

2) A domain redirecting to a site means almost nothing. That just means whomever owns that domain set it to redirect to another site. I could buy iphone4g.com and redirect it to apple.com/iphone if I wanted to.

The point is that it CHANGED to redirect to Apple. It's owned by someone in Russia (not Apple) so your first point is irrelevant. Your second doesn't explain anything... yes, anyone can redirect a domain, duh. But why NOW?Why when there's an opportunity to make money off curiosity? People can use this to popularise their own site, make money off advertising or (if they're so inclined) scam people.

I don't know why it happened, but this thread was created in the hope of sparking a DISCUSSION. You know? Because we're on a FORUM?

People here need to get over themselves :)

i see you've posted on that forum haha. you should spam it with pictures of mork from ork going "nanoo nanoo"

russian guy registered it, pointed it to apple, created a forum, and now could get huge ad revenue from that domain once it gets posted to rumor sites. you'd think it would be a blank page or have a more fuzzy whois if apple did intend on loading up an entire iphone nano site next week. regardless of the validity of the nano rumor, i think this is completely unrelated.
