Huawei was the first to implement this, but Apple will pretend they are first as usual.

My next phone is gonna be the Samsung S20 Ultra
Samsung is guaranteeing half your money back in 2 years if you do not abuse or break your phone.
Thats $700 back from Samsung in 2 years.
Gonna use my $1200 check from the government and Go Samsung S20 Ultra Unbeatable Deal.
Every Single iPhone I have ever had was defective. From HOT batteries. Fast battery drainage to crackling speakers and bad sound on the other parties phone
I will still Love macOS and the iPad
Just ready to dump the iPhone.

This one feature is what has nearly made me get a Plus phone for so many years.

The Plus phones could never do rotation lock in landscape orientation from what I recall (I owned 2 of them). They DID have a landscape home screen though.

The MAX phones do NOT have a landscape home screen for whatever reason. The MAX phones also have a crippled Mail app compared to the Plus phones (no way to keep the side bar with the list of mail on the left with the mail content on the right -- the minute you tap the email to read it the list slides away -- makes it much harder to triage email).

The MAX phones have more horizontal landscape screen real estate than the Plus phones but behave like they have less.

Great idea - it always bugs me that when laying in bed, I have to be the one to adjust my position just so I can look at my iPhone the right way and not have it go into landscape mode just because I’m on my side.
Rotate lock is one swipe away

Who wants to turn the light on while in bed so the camera can see your face? FaceID wouldn't require additional lighting.
Even if you’re in pitch darkness, if there’s any light coming from your phone screen at all, it’s enough for the camera to pick up your face.

Still seems like a lesser solution to me. Unless you have a phone without FaceID.

yes! finally.
This is what i thought they would release years ago... I was thinking that it wasn't quite 'perfect' so Apple isn't releasing it. (I didn't even know other smartphones already implemented this.)

Then FaceID came out and I thought for sure, they'll have this feature.

I was literally thinking this today when I unlocked my iPad on the table. Clearly my face was not in the same orientation as the orientation of the screen so it should have detected that and orientated the screen correctly.

Would not Face DI with its laser consume way more power than a selfie camera? Is it OK to have a constant (or at least frequent) laser on your face?

It wouldn't be any different than it would under normal use. It's not like laying on your side would cause it to drain additional power. It should be about the same I'd think.

What about iris scanning?

but why? UI will look stretched. Imaging your files app or settings app, you get 4 lines and some text at one end and that's about it

This should have been done so long ago, existing non face id models detect face positions from the front camera so easily have the capability to do this. I posted this as a suggestion to Apple Support well over a year ago, as usual I never got any response.

Yeah I was thinking the landscape home screen.

What?! That makes the max sound horrible. I liked the plus features.

I've always, always, always wanted the option to exclude video from screen lock.
I use my phone in portrait for everything but I always have video in landscape.

"...However, this does not always work perfectly, forcing the user to move the device to get content to display in the proper orientation."
yup i agree - current tech needs to improve this

I see what you did here. Iris scanning is more secure than FaceID. Twins can unlock each other's phones if they share their phones often. A string of false positive and false negatives will make that happen. Iris is very difficult to fake, and it is mathematically guaranteed to be unique, just like fingerprints, but TouchID is still spoofable. The entropy of TouchID is only 1 in a million.
