I don't know how reliable the source is, but I did read a small article on Flipboard that stated that the iPhone 6s only cost Apple $235 to manufacture. The rest of it is profit now I don't know how much the plus phone costs, but it makes you wonder why we spend so much money on these phones when they are so inexpensive to manufacture.

Think of it like this...do you think a Blu Ray disk truly costs $20 or $10 to make?
Do you think a $3,000 tv costs that much to make? How about cars? Furniture?
No they don't cost that much to make. But like a Blu Ray movie or car or even a AAA game there's more involved then the disc or components involved.
Also keep in mind Apple not only makes the hardware but also the software and has AMERICAN reps for American customer service (along with reps from other countries supporting their country).
If I could build a phone and create the OS for it then have to offer support for it do you think I should only charge for the parts to make it? That's not counting marketing my phone, defending the patents to my phone, or paying those that help me. Also not factored in would be the time spent troubleshooting, trying out new features, seeing which hardware components worked together best (R&D) and seeing if I could get enough of those components by X timeframe for Y amounts.
But you go ahead and do all that for us and let us pay the price for the parts you used and let us skip on paying for the rest.
No, some companies pay their people (but not their CEO's) pennies on the dime so they "hidden" costs are less.
Apple pays their people really good, uses quality components, spends Billions on R&D, Offers first class software and really good support and they ask you pay them what you or I would ask to be paid if we had a company doing the same.
