I know it’s all heat related, but even in the shade… screens get super hot and dim down so low that you can’t see them.

Apple really needs to work on some kind of screen cooling solution… hardware or software.
For instance, try videoing your kid playing soccer… after 30 seconds you can’t even see what you’re recording. Even worse if you have sunglasses on.

My 12 pro max did it… my 13 pro max does it worse.
Any day at the beach, or outside in the sun.
And you can feel that the screen is hot

Would you mind sharing how hot it is in your area? Would the use of a case or no case change the situation for you?

I’ve seen this issue with previous iPhone’s - South East Asia & the UAE so, we’re talking hotter & humid than sunny California.

While possibly not as hot as South East Asia or the UAE, I live in Phoenix where summer temps are routinely above 110º during the summer. Nowhere near as humid though. I've never had an issue with any of my phones (iPhone or otherwise).

That’s one of the reasons why Apple is working on mini and micro LED. OLED has thermal limitations especially when exposed to direct sunlight. Heat also limits brightness even in room temperature conditions.

Even without direct sunlight, the processor is right underneath the display which acts like a stove element. If the outside temperature is high and you're doing something intensive like recording 4K60, the heat can dim the display.

Sure your phone isn’t defective? That’s not normal behaviour.
Its normal behavior based on region. Out here then we get a lot of sun and every (iphone) user I know just accepts that you can't use your phone outdoors due to Apples pretty aggressive screen dimming.

I experience this all the time with my 12 Pro Max. Latest example was I was recording my kids swimming in the pool & the screen dimmed so much I couldn’t see anything. Don’t remember it happening with my 11 Pro Max or earlier.

This began happening a lot with my 12PM, even indoors with air conditioning. My battery was at 89% capacity (don’t know if that contributed). I was getting fed up with it. My new 13PM is behaving much better maintaining brightness in the Texas heat.

Don’t experience the hot screen, but like almost all of these screens, it is difficult to see.
I’ve found removing my sunglasses helps tremendously, especially if the sunglasses are polarized.

No issues here in 40 degrees celsius heat during summer. 🇦🇺🦘🥵

Mine does it all the time even indoors on 12 PM. I’ve started to just take my case off to prevent it from heating up.

Exactly this is why I roll my eyes whenever they brag about a brighter screen in the sun. It just ^@%&#& throttles, and you can't see crap.

Streamed the entire Texas football game this morning in direct sunlight this morning. Didn’t get warm at all and I could see it just fine.

I’m in Barcelona and had the same problem all summer with my 12 pro max, I’m hoping my 13 pro max will be better…..
