I didn’t know that many people bought used phones

Is this mostly a 2nd & 3rd world thing?

I always figured that’s where my traded in devices ended up

Lots of phones returned by writers on this board. Phone has a scratch you need a magnifying glass to see return it. Phone‘s screen is slightly more yellow than last phone return it.
If you bought a new car and it was scratched would you ignore it.

no really.. my friend has the money to buy brand new but he is on the stingy side and he wouldn't pay all that money for a new phone.
He just got an iPhone 13 Pro and Apple Watch ( it think series 8 ) from eBay , used

It’s very much a first world thing too. A lot a parents find the refurbished market an affordable way to get iPhones for their children. Think about it, a standard iPhone 14 is £799 and the 14 Plus is £849, very few parents can justify that so the refurb option is attractive. There’s no way I’d trust my two daughters with expensive iPhones, not that they are interested in the latest and greatest as that generation don’t care as long as it’s an iPhone.

Why would you want your kid to have a smart phone?

I’d pay for sports equipment, or something with a good ROI in making them into independent adults, but a smart phone, nooope

If they are old enough to have a smartphone, they are old enough to mow lawns or do other work and pay for their own phone if they want one THAT bad

I do invest a lot into making sure my children do whatever they wish to do. They aren’t old enough to do chores like that and have hand me down iPhones for playing games, making videos and FaceTiming their friends, nothing more. This is why buying brand new iPhones is not viable for kids in 2023.
