iPhone's safari never saves password? I've already turned on that feature but every time I press autofill, it just does nothing. What gives??

This seems to be a feature 
thought would be useful but has become useless I have found that once you first visit a site and check the box remember username and pass word only then a pop up comes up asking if you would to save the password for this site.My understand is you should be able to tap autofill and it pulls info from contacts.
