That's the big hangup. You can't go from a 7plus which has perfect aspect ratio to a smaller screen. Had they just removed the bottom where the Touch ID button is at and made the top black space 1/2 the size it would have been perfect.

Already sounds like the batter life is one hour less too from the plus. I wish those two things would have been same. Then I could see X be more appealing.

IPhone X battery is 2 hours more than iPhone 7 plus and one hour less then iPhone 8 plus

Also iPhone plus is downsampled 1.5% which blurs the image compared to non plus by around 5-10%

The X is a phone full of compromises. The surprising thing is, there will be millions of people willing to put down 1000 sheets for it

I believe the X has 2hrs better battery life than the 7. Not the 7 plus. The battery on the 8 plus is about the same as the 7 plus.

Where do you get the info about the image being down sampled? That’s the first I’m hearing of it. Never noticed any images being blurry on my 7 plus…

No. X has 2 hour better battery than the non plus models. But one hour less than the plus models.

Down sampling also results in a small performance hit

Read the article and it was interesting. I hadn’t heard of it before you mentioned it.
I’ve got 2 questions/comments.
1. Can YOU actually see the effects of the downsampling? I sure can’t.
2. What kind of performance hit do you think the iPhone really suffers from due to the downsampling? My guess is that it’s almost imperceptible.

The X should appeal more to non-Plus owners, if anything.

The only area that the Plus size iPhone screens have the “advantage” is the width. The iPhone X screen size is exactly the same height when you exclude the status bar ears and the bottom bar. Giving you the exact same 16:9 aspect ratio between those two areas.

You’re comparing a much larger device battery to a much smaller device. The fact that the iPhone X is barely larger than a 6/7/8 but has almost the same battery life as a 7+/8+ is a huge oversight on your part.

Ugh this just reaffirms that the X is yet again, basically the same as the 4.7 screen, but much taller. I really dislike this tall phone trend (Samsung and LG as well). It's better for scrolling through instagram and facebook, but doesn't yield any benefit aside from that. Width is what makes the phone feel much more spacious, and adds value while web browsing, and various other apps.

I didn't think i would like the taller form factor either but after using the S8 plus since launch i would not want to go back to a wider phone. It feels so damn nice in the hand and can be used one handed easily for most things. I also love how much content you see on scrollable apps like Twitter and Instagram. Its the perfect aspect ratio for me.

Keeping the X the width of the 6/7/8 allows for a better one handed experience. Not for reaching the top of the display, but for reaching across side-to-side, which is ideal for typing, swiping back within apps, etc.
