iphoto 09 source list won't display

How can I get iphoto 09 version 8.0.4 to display the source list window (the list of folders, albums, etc) that is normally on the left side of the application window? this app is almost impossible to use without this list.

Can you post a screen shot of what you are seeing? I have tried to make mine go away to reproduce what you are describing, but can't, so I may be off on the wrong track

here is what I see

thanks -- I tried to post both screen shots yesterday... here is what iphoto looks like when I open application. Cannot find how to change appearance.

had to move the cursor to the extreme left of the window -- a "+" appears. Dragged it left and the sources list appeared.
