iPhoto: Download pics from cam...

Hi,
I'm using iPhoto to organize my personal pictures, but eventually I take some which I would like to download directly to my desktop or a specific folder, so I can access them easier with bridge&PS.

Is there a way to have my cam (Canon 400d) recognized as a regular drive on the desktop?

Try Image Capture. The camera should be recognized there. You can select all or individual images and their destination folder.
